-snip-
Well, the oft-touted argument is that those who say they're X thing for attention/sympathy/"special points"/whatever make things worse somehow for those who are actually X thing, like making it harder for people to take them seriously or worsening their reputation. And I guess if such behavior hurt the interests of "genuine" ones I can see how it might be a big deal. But that's just the thing: who has the right to say who's "genuine"?

the stigma attached to the things that people are supposedly pretending to be or are doing just to get attention (pro-tip, you can't change sexuality or gender for attention, it doesn't work like that,) isn't worth the attention you get.
And that's another problem with that argument. Though, to be a stickler on the wording, it's not that they supposedly change their orientation/gender for attention, it's that they say supposedly they're one thing when they're not. But again, who has the right to say who's genuine or not?

yea it's like throwing the term SJW around and then when people get mad saying you weren't referring to them, but those other guys.
It's the same with pretty much any term.

Wait are people really argueing about food? More specifically what food other people eat?
Or am I reading this all wrong?
It's an extended metaphor.

A distinction which is impossible now, since post-THINGWHICHSHALLNOTBENAMED SJW seems to be the new favorite conservative slang term for anyone deemed "politically correct" no matter what kind of infraction they're being chided for. Including issues most people who identify as a non-radical Liberal would be like "holy shit that's bigoted". And given how these alienating phrases are often dismissed by the infractor as jokes, without addressing the actual concerns with their behavior and only becoming more combative over their right to do such, its only led to an increasingly bitter political divide most often seen on the Internet as people become more and more on edge.

I had a post answering Cryxis, but it's unnecessary now, so instead, what say we move to another thread, though? We're cluttering this one pretty bad.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

While this thread lacks the ironclad rules of the Rage or Happy threads, I[And probably others] would appreciate it if you didn't post about forum drama here.

Is there any thread that hasn't been involved in feminism discussions recently?
THAT makes me sad. I remember when I could go to a thread to vent and not find a bunch of people holding knives to each other's throat.

You know, the Europol threads are feminism-free (and a bit of a sausage party IIRC). Plus we stopped all the knifeplay ages ago - now we just talk about lactating men.

Remember the last time people started talking about a feminism related lock in another thread? That's probably not an incident worth repeating.

Anyway I'm sad because I just went to the bathroom and felt, for the briefest of moments, like I was being stabbed in the groin. I know I'm at an "elevated risk" for kidney stones, so I'm just gonna start drinking more water and hope this doesn't deteriorate into a more concerning situation.

Urgh, kidney stones.

They're the reason I cut the amount of soda I drink to <1 liter a week. :S

Doesn't beer help against kidney stones? If so, I should be fairly safe :P

Beer also increases your risk of getting cancer because of the alcohol and acetaldehyde.

So...um...yea.

Maybe not so safe :P
