Season six of Adventure time is seeming to be all arthouse and crap.

I'm also a little annoyed at the idea that something needs to be innate to be authentic, or to be worthwhile. Apparently, experimentation and investigation is bad, mkay? Bah.

I blame the "Born this way!" defensive posture. :U

I stopped watching after Season 2 because the humor felt kind of... toned down, in favor of just being weird.

I just wonder why people give a shit. I mean, I get why people care about their own identities. Shit's important. I just don't get why people feel a need to pass judgment on what's okay about it and what's not. "Yeah okay well this is an okay motivation but that isn't." I do get that you might care insofar as who you like to hang out with or admire or whatever, but this whole notion of bringing up what you do or do not like in response to somebody talking about their own experiences and stuff is baffling.

"I've got an allergy to peanuts, so I had to pass on the peanut butter pie at the family reunion. It looked good, I wish I could've had some, and I felt kind of left out."
"Well, are you sure you have an allergy? I mean don't get me wrong, I know some people do go into shock if they eat peanuts, but I don't think people should be complaining about their choices if they're not sure it's peanuts they're allergic to. Besides, if it's just something like you break out in hives, maybe you should have just toughed it out. I don't mind people doing what they need to to stay alive, but grabbing attention if you're not really in danger is kind of needy and unhealthy."

"Yeah, I dressed up for my date and spent a bit more money than I really needed to but I had a great time."
"Oh, you don't need to spend any money on dates. My first date with my husband was just a walk through the park, and neither of us dressed up or anything. People these days are so caught up in materialism or gift-giving that they don't really get to see each other until a few months down the line. Just be yourself and everything will work out, I promise."

Seriously, I get that you have a relevant opinion but you don't actually have to voice it every time it comes up.

EDIT: Also the reason I came here before I noticed whatever the hell just happened, I'm sick. Garlic tea is good for throat but the nausea is persistent.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I'm bringing this up again. Sorry, guys.

I was never okay with all of the teeny girls acting Bi because their boyfriends liked it, and I don't think I will be OK with similar people acting trans so that they can hang with the SJW's.

You know, I'm about to turn twenty-five, which I feel is old enough to not be lumped in with "all of the teeny girls." It frustrates me that you'd bring this up in context of my post, because it makes me feel like you have forgotten my history here. I don't need any "SJW" cookies. I started the progressive rage thread.

Your kneejerk reaction seems to be that I would be trying to impress someone with this. Mathematicians, social justice people (surely not the trans-erasing radical feminists--OTHER social justice people). I suppose that the Russian poetry translation, perfect GRE scores, math degree from the best public university in the world, literary research assistanceship (by the way, I was also just offered one in statistics), and leading a game development team to victory over thousands of other contestants just wasn't enough to make myself stand out over the past two years and now I've gotta impress everyone by co-opting masculinity, too, because trans status is what's going to put me over the edge.

Riiiiiiiiiight.

I want to be true to myself, whatever that means, and I've decided to stop ignoring the frequent messages of discomfort my body sends me. Maybe they appeared from being raped, sexually assaulted and harassed as a teenager, etc. Maybe it's a gender issue (given that plenty of things have been around long before puberty and I have had my suspicions for a damn long time). I don't know! I'm trying to figure it out, though, because the truth is worth honoring, whatever it is.

This was incredibly well said. Also, fuck TERFs and SWERFs. Someone make them become FeMRAs so they can stop polluting our waters.

You are perfect as yourself. We are all exhausted from the fighting and the derogatory terms. The erasure, the utterly inhuman way we are treated, specifically those of us that fight for equality, and those of us that need that equality to one degree or another.

-snip-
I think it's more like this:
A: "At our family reunion, there was this delicious pumpkin pie. It's a shame I couldn't eat it - they weren't using gluten-free wheat. People really should look out more for the special needs of people like me."
B: "That's a shame, that pie sounds great. But don't you think that the current gluten hype is silly? People doing it just because they heard of it, and expecting everyone else to roll along."

A is sharing a personal experience, and B tries to start a tangent, inadvertantly making it sound like he's doubting A's suffering (because believe me, that hypothetical pumpkin pie was delicious as fuck). They took a wrong turn in their conversation, and now they'll spend the next ten minutes arguing pointlessly.
