Woke up this morning feeling like I swallowed a cup of razors.
Went to the doc to see what was wrong, got a throat and nasal swab to test for strep or flu.
Both came back negative so both useless painful procedures.
I may have a minor infection or my body is just being stupid, I've got medicine but don't need to take it unless I'm still feeling like crap tomorrow

Got shot down by a physicist chick I met at a birthday party a while ago. Kind of expected it, since I had had a bit too much to drink back then, but still doesn't feel nice...

My wife started reading Roald Dahl's "The Witches" to my 6 year old. For some reason, just one chapter in, she's decided that witches are the worlds most terrifying thing, and has been waking up once a night saying she doesn't feel safe in her bed. I do not even know how to start to deal with this. She refuses to accept that they aren't real. She can't sleep in our bed forever, but it's starting to get out of hand after about 5 days of it...
How old is your wife :o? That's not normal behaviour for an adult.

...And yeah, I remember the Witches being pretty dang scary. It was actually the ending that freaked me out the most, if I'm remembering correctly.
Roald Dahl's books were still awesome, though.

Had a good chat with her tonight, things looking a lot better. Explained to her about make believe things again, validated her fears then talked to her about them a bit. Explained the difference between real and pretened witches. She seemeds super excited to find out my friend was a good witch, and I told her she could check her hair/toes too. Chatted a bit more about what was scary about witches, and got down to the crux of it. I was right in that it was basically a manifest fear of mortality. That's always a tricky one with kids, 'cause I'm not going to lie and tell her she's immortal, but I reassure her if we're safe we'll live a long time. It helps that the only people she's known who've passed were great grandparents, so I explained how long that is from now. It makes her a bit sad, but she's not terrified of it anymore I think.
The whole situation is a mix of rewarding and saddening. Being a kid is hard, and I have to remind myself that sometimes.

The weather makes me sad right now. 6+ inches of snow in the next 12 or so hours and then the temperature drops by 40 degrees F.

If I could, I'd trade places. 25 is very much preferable to -20.

I think this belongs in the happy thread. Zanz has been hankering for a massacre for a while now.

I'm medically underweight--5'4" and 106.5 pounds--because I'm an idiot who keeps on dieting because I keep thinking it's going to magically make me look like a guy.
So, wait, do you want to look like a guy, or ...? Me no comprende your logic-o for much-o diet-o when diet-o is no needed-o. I don't know why I typed like that.

Why do you want to look more like a guy? So mathematicians will respect you more?
