Tom Bombadil. Potentially the strongest being in Middle Earth, especially after Sauron is toppled. Lives in the forest, sings songs, helps Hobbits and is exceptionally kind.

WHY THE HELL WASN'T HE IN THE MOVIE TRILOGY

Then...get steam?

Some people hate steam because..... reasons?

Those people have usually never actually used it.
Or the used it when it was really shit, and did nasty things like eating games. Or they just had nasty experiences with its DRM.
AKA never actually used it.

The key word there, I suppose, would be the "actually."

He's saying Steam's different now, so whilst they have used ye olde Steam Engine, they haven't used a petrol car :P

Same, except for the Dwarf/Elf subplot, I enjoyed them.

I... really liked the Hobbit movies.
I respect that, if only because I don't like the Lord of the Rings films. Or Lord of the Rings in general, to be honest.

Tim's opinion isn's exactly obscure, and yours is blasphemous.

Tolkein's writing style isn't that interesting to me. This would be fine, but thanks to a combination of his popularity and Dungeons and Dragons, the fantasy genre has been very dull for me since he's held up as the pinnacle of fantasy writing.
I much, much prefer Gormenghast. Has anyone ever read that? It was basically doing Game of Thrones before George R.R Martin was even alive! Plus, you can't kill someone with a Gormenghast book. A LOTR book, on the other hand...

Lord of the Rings isn't for everyone. I say this frequently. Heck, Tolkien really didn't expect anyone to publish it, let alone buy it.

Of course, that doesn't mean I can't be a fanboy.

Ugh, been on a rollercoaster of anxiety, depression and anger today. The shit weather didn't help one bit. I can pinpoint the exact cause but I have no idea what to do about it right now, the only solution is a couple of days from now, until then I'm just gonna have to supress this shit like I usually do.

+1 Gormenghast; those books are hilarious. In a very dry, arch sort of way. Fan of Tolkien as well, though. Have you ever tried any Lord Dunsany? He's pre-Tolkien fantasy, and his writing is pure imagination.

Right there with you on the weather, Jopax. Sun was out for all of ten minutes, and when it disappeared so did the last of my goodwill. A good day for obsessing over past and present fuck-ups.

I dont really like the LOTR trilogy, preferring The Hobbit and Samerilion, or however its spelled.
The writing just seems to be better in them.

My dorm building is having this "tacky sweaters and cocoa mixer" thing. On the one hand, I kinda want to go because I could meet people or something. And get free hot cocoa. On the other hand, I don't want to go because I don't know anyone and it seems like it would be awkward and I don't know what I would be doing there and aglblgl i cannot people.

It's a dorm party.
