I'm curious, what actually are LGBT dorms? As far as I know they're not really a thing over here. I kind of assumed it to be like sheltered housing but not for old people, but now I'm not so sure.

Or you could just say Queer. It's a fairly widely accepted alternative, but some people still find it offensive.
Anyway, LGBT housing exists because LGBT people tend to have a harder time finding housing on their own, and it's also because LGBT people are more persecuted in group housing, so it's good to have a nice inclusive household.

Teeeechnically I only qualify as a furry due to species dysphoria. I dislike the vast majority of the subculture's creepyeccentricness.

Originally it represented a political alliance between gender variant groups though now is shorthand method for indicating all those groups in a simplified manner.
As AlleeCat said, queer also works, the word having mostly been reclaimed.
