What I've got. They're comfortable and as durable as anything I've worn (not that this means much, given that my feet are, as I've said before, where footwear goes to die). Laces are a bit of a pain, but the pair I used to have with a convenient zipper (as well as laces, and a velcro strap to cover the zipper's grip) was far too thoroughly insulated for anything but outdoor winter wear. These breathe much more nicely. Either way, though, I like the aesthetics of a laced-up boot, so I'll probably stick with them for day-to-day wear.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

It may be an extensive derail, but considering I have a pair of Loafers for working, a pair of loafers for day-to-day walking, and a pair of dress-loafers, I think that I am justified in TRYING to convert these booted heathens to the one true shoe. :P

@Bauglir: I don't need my boots to breathe. Last time I checked, my lungs connected to my face instead of my toes.  :P

yes, yes, I know what is meant by a shoe/boot "breathing"...I just don't see a need for it. I prefer that my foot/ankle/calf be encased in as damn near a suit of leathery armor as I can find. Ditto why I wear a full-length leather coat from about October to May.

My feet just sweat relentlessly. If I'm walking a lot, and I often am, all that moisture leads to some pretty nasty abrasions that no amount of thickened skin seems to prevent, and socks soft enough to avoid it wear holes clear through after two uses, tops. Were it not for that, I'd prefer a more solid material, yeah.

So get some comfortable black or brown fuax leather loafers.
You won't regret it, and it will make shoe-shopping fun as long as there are loafers at the store.
Or at least 80% less meh.

I agree with LSP. Levitation is the best form of transportation.

I either wear bare feet, steel toe boots, or winter boots.
