I'm doing things I like. Making jokes. Talking to friends. Watching movies. Reading books. They don't bore me like what things do to a depressed person, but they don't seem to make me feel better except just to distract me for a while.

I feel like I have forgotten how to have fun and be cheerful, but hey, maybe if I wait long enough I'll stop being such a bore and go back to the old, fun and peppy me, right?

It'll be harder to be if you dwell on it. Be happy when you're happy, and sad when you're sad. Though do put a face on for others, I suppose, or you'll have more to be sad about.

It probably goes without saying, but if she does make it through you should try to be there for her as much as possible...

Thanks. Hopefully I'll get to see her in a couple of days. What made it even worse is that her mother - who cooked me dinner over and over, helped drive me to sports and when my own mother became too over-bearing was there for me to talk to - came over and was bawling her eyes out. And man, the police are dicks. They came to the door and told her that she had been in a car accident and 'broke her leg'. Cue her going to the hospital and seeing her daughter on full life support without being able to prepare for it at all.

Oh, damn. I didn't notice your post at first, Gl. I add my sympathies.

And she "broke her leg?" Wow. Understatement of the century.

* Arx offers Cpt. K. A. hugs.

if I had stuck with her, this might not have happened.

Good luck. I can only offer hugs as well, and this: blaming yourself cannot possibly make this situation any better.

Yup. Not only is she on life support but in just her leg she pretty much has no knee-cap - it's been crushed - and the main bone in her thigh is sticking out at a 45 degree angle.

I see the title "U.S. Mother Gives Away 5-Year-Old Adopted Child From Haiti For Throwing Temper Tantrum" and laugh because it's clearly an Onion article. It's not.

Probably for the best. Child is likely to go somewhere more loving, and the "mother" gets him off her hands.

It would have been worse if the child had stayed in a non-loving environment.

It was while reading a GURPS book, and involved a setting update, taking the traditional Standard Fantasy Setting (with magic, goblins, elves, etc.) and moving it to a more modern one such as the American Colonial era, the Victorian (NOT steampunk) era, or the World Wars. Not exactly an Urban Fantasy sort of thing, nor a Magitek one, it's tricky to explain the distinction I'm trying to make here.
No, I think I get it.

I haven't tried GURPS, but the setting is interesting nonetheless, and I think I'll flesh it out in a worldbuilding sense so that it will be easier for GMs to run campaigns in it. If/when I do, I'll start a new thread for it, but I'm intrigued by the Magical American Colonial Era idea and want to do something with it.
I'll have to do some more research into the era, I know very little about it at the moment.

If you're open to running a VTT game, we could try fumbling through it until we know the system.
A google search reveals that stands for Virtual Table Tennis. Also, one result for Patchfinder. I don't think those are what you mean.
Are you referring to a game, or a GURPS module?
I mean a Virtual Table Top, which is a chat client with build in map and die roller.

I read that as 'non-living environment'....which is much worse

Ugh, I keep having to use the bathroom, and I'm starting to get cold chills.
I think I may be slightly ill.
