I am feeling kinda bad again because I read some history and learned that some sort of horrible thing happened to some people somewhere some time ago.

No, seriously, a bunch of random people died about 500 years ago and I feel bad for them.

So I am wondering, does anybody know any rulers or people of similar political magnitude from the middle ages or earlier who were not horrible murderers? A genuinely likable historical figure's ought to cheer me up.

I can vouch for Saladin

From what I know of history, Muslims in general were pretty chill compared to other contemporary peoples in Medieval times.
Its kinda like: "So what have you done Christian dood?" "I tortured a young woman to death because she was pretty and people wanted to sex her!" "er...ok...how bout you Pagan dood?" "Raping, looting and pillaging!" "yeah...that's....nice....Muslim dood?" "I been doin the Math and the Science" "Oh....WAIT SERIOUSLY?!, dude that's AWESOME"

And then I get sad because they ruined it now...:(

Anyway, BFEL is supa sicks, so don't come near me or you will also be supa sicks.

People ruined it THEN. Before the Crusades they were far more chill towards each other.

I used to be pretty good at Starcraft. Now I am so out of practice that I suck.

No, not necessarily bad person, but she made some decisions for her own good and the good of the greater country which may seem bad.

At that point you could get into philosophical debate about what exactly is "good", and is it still bad if it is for the good of many?

Although, I remember being told in history that Saladin tended to let prisoners live in his cities provided they didn't try to leave. Plenty of crusaders and such did so, apparently.

Also, the middle east was pretty arable due to irrigation and such, but ended up losing a lot of that when the Mongols came.

There was a reason Iraq was called the Fertile Crescent, and a reason why civilization more or less started there.

You could. Or I could repeat the story about the secretary.

I don't know, I've met some pretty rude secretaries in my day...

And I could repeat the reason for his imprisonment?

I could repeat my point about secretaries? :P

Nonetheless, you've piqued my interest. Do you have a link to something describing that incident? It's not something I've heard of before (like I said, I specialize in medieval history), and a quick google search proves futile.

It came up in a history lesson in school. I'll have a look, though.

And I really enjoy medieval history. Wouldn't call myself a specialist or anything, but it interests me.

The most interesting thing that happened to me in history class in the past year was someone confusing the "Picchu" in "Machu Picchu" with "Pikachu".

It was inevitable.

Vector, I know what you mean. Same thing right now.

Although I don't exactly have any designated cuddleperson. Just want cuddles in general.
