Why are you even thinking of buying islands.
Somalian pirates didn't buy islands.
They take them.

Watch out, if you take an island Argentina might decide to fight you for it.

I still search for islands for sale every now and then.
If you ever find and purchase one, please name it Yoshi's Island. Thanks in advance.

I think it would be pretty awesome to own an island. Then I'll declare myself a sovereign nation and beg for foreign aid. Or something.
If you ever hear about some crazy guy declaring himself King of All Oranges on some island in the middle of nowhere, that'll be me. Dammit, Future Me. Why do you have to be so crazy.

Barely had any sleep last night. Not entirely sure why, but great difficulty falling asleep combined with waking up to the slightest noise is not fun. Now I'm very cranky and my head hurts. Today will not be a good day.

Then, when the citizens of the island support you, accuse you of colonialism.

Well, I had to bury a kitten last night.

I'm getting real tired of burying pets, if my current ones go I'm done.

I helped a young client start her own tailoring/seemstress business. Her father has NEVER been happy with me for several reasons. First he has probably figured me out as far as not being straight goes. Second, I have steered his daughter away from college (and into a career). It's very simple, she wanted to go for a fashion design and business degree and do this anyhow. My way, she gets what she wants right now without wasted years of study and debt. Her dad is an asshole who stupidly believes in the idea of value in college. I can demonstraite this as false in her case, and he doesn't give a damn. Forgetting the money she's making (small but growing), she's developing business and ccustomer contacts while getting close to her mom.... Dad is a dick who is trying to force a decision on daughter he refuses to pay for.... He's also a jackass to me and lately threatened me. I don't like being a jerk, but I've dealt with far worse than this guy.... (sigh). Nothing is easy.....

You did the right thing - in the end, it's what she wants that really matters.

Nothing is easy, but at least you're awesome enough to handle difficult stuff I suppose.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
