Sublimated warfare, anyone? AKA capitalism and football. Both kinds.

Yeah, I mean people already get riled up about sports, why not use them to solve conflicts?

Sads: I was nearly late for work because the responsibility of dealing with the alarm clock was apparantly handed over to me while I was still asleep.
because seriously, it's not enough to have to do Jack shit, they can't even watch an alarm clock for me now.

Why do I bother?
I have to get to work, anyway.

I think we can at least agree a world would be a better place if we all would just stop being dicks to each other.

So... if we stop being human and replace ourselves with robots programmed to always make rational decisions based on the good of the populace? :P
Didn't some guy named Burgess write about about such a topic?

Humans aren't dicks. :v
Even inherently.

No, they learn to be dicks. That doesn't make them non-dicks.

I never claimed we were a race of sentient penises.
We do, however, feel emotions- which includes anger, which leads on to violence and war. We also feel happiness, sadness, fear, excitement... the list goes on. You have to take the good with the bad. I could spout off some airy-fairy "yin and yang" nonsense but that would sound dumb and I think the point is made pretty clearly already.
Violence, and greed which often leads to violence, are both deeply ingrained in the human psyche, no matter how deep we bury them.

They exist, obviously. They're not ingrained however.
Them 'leading' to anything worse happens generally if they're uncontrolled.

...Also it would be weird if you did claim we were a race of sentient phalluses.

I am a phallus that happens to be attached to a set of organs, muscles, bones, and nerves.

I still believe that violence and conflict are natural and unavoidable, but warfare on the scale of nation vs nation is not.  It takes a lot of manipulation to motivate a populace to fight in the vast majority of wars... that is when they're not bluntly forced to through some kind of draft.

A lot of manipulation? My impression was that it was mostly herd-like behaviour, coupled with tribalism on a larger scale - "Those damn frogs did [X] - now we'll show 'em who's boss!"

Herd behaviour is still manipulation.

Herd behaviour is still manipulation.
I think it's more along the lines of "herd behavior can be easily manipulated".

Well, either way it either causes or is easy to abuse by manipulation.
