After seeing today's XKCD...

Every time I see anything about climate change, I just get this horrible sinking feeling. We often look back in history and see people in the past as quaint and misguided. Our generation's going to be looked back on as the idiots who ruined everything for everyone despite knowing better because we couldn't quite stop enjoying the status quo enough to bother doing anything about it.

It's a really hard thing to be optimistic about.

Agreed.

Yeah. Same here.
Mm :-\

I'm pretty ambivalent about the whole thing.

Being optimistic is hard.
It's why I don't try.

That's the very attitude of the cause of the post you quoted, to be honest.

While in truth, there would be that kind of judgement--history will never forget that despite [badstuff] happening, there were people who tried to prevent it because they knew.

Sad thing is, the [idiots] who knew and still went with it comprise the majority in mostly all cases of [ruining stuff].
Though the generalism occurs. At least history knows it's wrong.

And on that note, I guess its [the idea] emphasized because the future generations will feel what is wrong directly, instead of those who see it beforehand, and do not feel it.

Kudos to those who are working against this kind of status quo though.

Eh?
You can want to improve something without being optimistic about it. Just understand the likely consequences, rather than being confident that it'll be the best outcome.

I was poking rather at the 'this is hard so I don't do it' thing rather than the optimism or the idea of being such. :v

I mean, so what if its hard?

Oh, right.
That's a problem I have with optimism specifically. I don't like it. Something about trying to think that way just feels wrong to me, so I don't see much point in trying to force it.

There's a difference between being optimistic and not minding the consequences//differing viewpoints in a situation. :P

Though my guess is you're speaking about a certain kind of optimism and not the general thing.
Or if it is the general thing then...err.

Starting to just achieve that point where I can make it from paycheck to paycheck with a little extra to pay down debts.

Then this evening my back molar says "Haha motherfucker! How you like me now?" as part of it decides to secede from my mouth and leave behind a nice little crater straight to the nerve.

Ugh. That happened to me once. It sucks. It didn't hurt for me, but it's mildly irritating when you're 11 or 12 and your last few baby teeth decide to crack into several pieces instead of just continuing to be loose, like normal.

Yes, as it turns out, you have a shitty molar. We're going to need you to come in for two more visits, though, just to make sure.

That'll be $4,000.

(Sympathies.)

Nah, my dentist is a bro. (He gave me freebie stuff when I was on the skids and low on funds, and if my situation hadn't improved before it did, was going to give me X-rays and just not charge for them).

Probably couple hundred dollars (80% of which I'll get reimbursed by my dental insurance). And my HSA still has enough on it to cover the upfront cost.

Crappy thing is that my dentist is such a good guy that his appointment schedule is booked months in advance. Hoping they can squeeze me in sometime in the next day or two.

Actual related-via-blood-or-law bro, or just-a-good-friend bro?
Either way, he's a bro in my book for helping you out like that.

Just a good guy.
A Good Guy Greg dentist, if you will. Which is why I still go to him even though he's on the other side of the county now. Been going to him for about 12 years now.

...And then there's the dentists over here, who don't know what they're doing and try to look like they do.
