Couldn't you put your USB on a keyring/keychain or something, ensure that you can't lose it?
Funny thing when partly sleep deprived in which said reason is WHAT WAS IN THERE in the first place.
I actually keep the case in which the USB is packed so to pack it again. Realized I had forgotten an hour later--decided to come back the next day (as I left the place at 5pm and it was closed) to check.

Next day: Nope!
The person running the desk asked the security in charge.
Nope!
So bluhhh. Months wasted...
Ok, not really. I've got backups BUT IT FEELS THAT WAY.
...
And now I remember that one file I keep my musings on literature and aaaaall~ that writing. Which I didn't back up due to all the other back ups but isn't actually backed up!
Well.  :'(

Anyway, thanks. So much. Also same feelings for your lost belongings :/

As a macabre note, I've the casing it is kept in to remind me of its hollow spot it used to fill.
...Blargh. xD

My soft bicycle seat has literally MELTED from today's heat :(

It was some kind of dense springy foam thing, but it's melted into a great rubbery, oily mass.

I think my laptop is getting obsolete. The games I play lags stupidly all the time.

Well it wasn't a total failure :D
I managed to narrow down the # of people who attended to that one cubicle I was in, and there was only a 1 hour time before my departure and the closing.
So the shopkeep said about 1 or 2 people used it.
Now that's the problem! Who are those two ;-;
...Anyway, yeah.

Why would people want to steal your USBs, Tir? Are they expensive?

Anyway, that's some really bad luck there, I am sorry.

Have you tried attaching your USB to you keychain? That way you'll never leave it anywhere.

...I have to say, if I lost my writing I would probably kill someone.

Ugh, well, best of luck in recovering them. And please don't kill someone, the internet reception is terrible in prison, so you wouldn't be able to post here anymore.  :)

Tir, you should really start using cloud storage. If all else fails, use the poor man's cloud: email stuff to yourself.

Tiruin is being preyed upon by the mythical USBurglar.

I'm imagining him like a dude in a striped jumper with an USB plug in place of his neck and without a head.

Really? All I saw was a stereotypical, fat American stealing stuff. Mainly because I read US Burglar instead of USB urglar.

I'm picturing a Matrix-style version of the Hamburglar.

Also Google Documents maybe? Only briefly used it myself so admittedly I'm not sure how well it works but it seemed decent.

It's now called Google Drive. There's a reason for that.
