Meh, if I need tattoos I'll just tear my skin off in elaborate patterns.

So that's what your avatar is showing! You should be in an art gallery!

My tattoo is both art and symbolic. It's also my avatar.

Anyway, I'm too sick to eat steak. Bluh.

I've been sitting on a major project doing nothing for quite some time now, and it's due pretty soon. I'll be rushing all weekend to get this done.

Also, family shit happened. Nothing to do with my mom or her idiot this time.

There is only one condition under which I would get tattoos. If they were invisible to the naked eye.

I only want them to be visible in the infrared or ultraviolet spectrums. That would be pretty cool because of novelty. Regular ones aren't something I'm particularly interested in though.

I dunno what ya'll think art actually is if it isn't to symbolize something.

It's not pretty pictures for pretty pictures sake.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I don't see why it shouldn't just be pretty pictures for the sake of pretty pictures. I mean, a landscape doesn't really symbolise much, but when painted it is still art.

What's wrong with pretty pictures? People like pretty things as a general rule.

And symbolism is something I'm not too fond of, because it's usually bullshit that people make up to try and make a sculpture of a naked person unique and special compared to the millions of others there have been.

...how could you use symbolism to make a statue unique? Isn't it more the thoughts associated with a particular thing, like for example the connotations behind a cross? In a parallel universe, just randomly put together wood. Here, a sign of martyrdom and holiness.

... I still see it as randomly put together wood. Guess I'm from that alternate universe, and it's the same one where people are disgusted at people who eat crustaceans as a delicacy.

It's how you decide to apply your bullshit that makes it special. Bonus points if your bullshit is topical.

Oh, for crying out loud, it's in pretty much all cultures. Catholicism has spread nearly everywhere in some form, but besides this it's highly televised. Everyone sees the cross. Vampire movies, etc.
It has connotations. Whether or not you like said connotations, or even if I do, doesn't enter into it. Maybe the first aid cross? That go down better?

Knowing what other people think doesn't mean that you think those things.
