people ask me why I'm short.

People seriously ask why you're short?  What fresh hell is this?

I really do wonder what kind of person asks that sincerely and expects a non-smarmy answer...

Really? I've always been told I'm tall because of what I was being fed.

I've never been asked why I'm short, mostly since I'm not. But I do remember being asked quite shocked "WHY ARE YOU SO TALL?!" in high school. On multiple occasions.

Hell I was taller than most of the staff.

I'm a little bit on the shorter side, myself, but not enough to be asked about it.

Yea, I got something similar to Janet. I'm 6'3". Of course, I mainly got the "Why are you so tall!" from girls, who tended to be shorter. Don't know how it was for you, Janet

It's always awkward when someone flees for their life for no particular reason.

I've had that happen once because someone thought I had poor taste in music. And several times because I told them I have scoliosis, and they didn't know what it was. Hell, some people who did somewhat know what it was have ran away from me, because they didn't want to catch my shortness.

Seriously? They actually ran? The girl I was talking about walked away very briskly, she didn't really flee.

Yea, back in highschool. No-one I've ever told seemed to completely know what scoliosis was, and a few had thought that it was some contagious, crippling disease.

I'm quite certain the Americans think 90% of the diseases are contagious.

Heh, I got that too, back when I was around people.

I'm 5'9", which is about average, I guess.

I remember once on cadet camp a bunch if people spread a rumour that I had AIDs and then no one would share a water bottle with me because they thought they'd get HIV.
