And here I though this kind of character development only exists in fiction.

I so very, very sorry for asking Vector, but is your being a rape apologist somehow related to the sexual assault you experienced? Sometimes people try to cope with their painful memories by rationalising them.

EDIT: Fiction, except for works focused on internal conflict, of course, tends to undermine character development in order to have sympatheric characters from the very beginning.

It's not that unusual. I was a far-right fundamentalist Christian (yes, MSH himself a Christian, I know!) back in ye olden days, which is to say eight years ago. Spent some time as a libertarian after that before discovering the true extent of my radicalism.

I have to confess, I am still prejudiced against overweight and below-average looking people.

How can I get over this?

I have a lot of social issues, what with not having many friends growing up and having little interaction with family. It's gotten better, but not as much as I would have liked it to.

On top of that I still carry some of my mother's prejudices.

The most I can say for myself is that I'm aware of my prejudices and do my best to work past them. Still going strong though :<

Yeah, I once thought that what amounted to stalking was a valid way of expressing concern for another person. And even past-er me once thought it would be interesting to set a bird on fire. And for a while there I'm pretty sure I thought Stalin was a pretty cool dude. And don't get me started on the casual guilt-tripping. Or the belief that the only problem with racism is that skin color is a stupid way to judge people.

... Yeah. Way to be a douche. wooooooo

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Nah, it was mostly related to my mom's thinking that those who don't entertain those points of view aren't intellectuals (up to and including, literally, asking why no one examines whether Hitler's argument in Mein Kampf didn't have a little truth to it).

Sad: I'm fidgety, and easily frustrated at the moment. I don't have the patience right now to do anything I want to do. So, I guess I'll sit here and bide my time.

I think people actually did do that.

And unanymously decided that no. No it didn't.

Every school of thought considers reason to be exclusively its domain. Such is the human psyche!

I did. I mostly scoffed and rolled my eyes. I did read the whole thing, though.
