Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

I want to chime in on the cop conversation...but what's the goddamn point? No one here will listen.

On another topic entirely, thanks to shenanigans I only get an 8-hour break tonight instead of my typical 10 hours. Doesn't sound like much of a difference, but it is.

I'd probably listen. M'dad's a cop and one of the nicest people you'd ever deal with.

Also I fell asleep for four hours in the middle of the day. This would be great if not for the fact I gotta get up early.

Pnx

So I accidentally wound up taking a fairly large quantity of caffeine by accident. I think it's basically been making my obsess about bad stuff tendency much worse.

Cynicism is outrage leaving the body.
I still prefer the devil's dictionary:
"CYNIC, n. A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be. Hence the custom among the Scythians of plucking out a cynic's eyes to improve his vision."

On a different note, with a strong possibility of feels, a comic from Twitch Plays Pokémon. Background: A while ago, a Sentret nicknamed "The Admiral", was lost (by trolls managing to release him), leaving the starter Totodile (Nicknamed "Major Gator") as the strongest Pokémon. The Totodile (now a Feraligatr) became so strong it basically won every match on it's own, and chat wasn't competent enough to deposit him (especially with many trying to release him too.)

So this comic shows up.

That's adorable.

However, I've heard that twitch crystal is crazy quiet.

If media stereotypes are to be trusted, you might want to try boxing. Or any kind of solitary semi-agressive sport, really.

I spent a large portion of last night obsessively thinking about some old relationships issues that I really wish I wasn't thinking about. I suspect the caffeine high might have had something to do with it.

It'd be nice if I could tell my brain to just stop thinking about things sometimes.

I'm also sort of worried about my old pathological lying issue. It's something I've had under control for years... but after some events that happened in the not too distant past, I kind of find myself intellectually wanting to lie a lot more in a way that's kind of crept up on me. I'm pretty sure I've managed to keep from lying the way I used to, but I'm seriously worried about it. :[

The recent conversation has made me look for a way to represent cynicism and optimism as two sides of the same coin, to no avail. The closest I've managed is ambigrams, and those render the words illegible. :I

Cz police.

Anyway, police are just the same as everyone elseand humans are inherently fallible. They're allowed to make mistakes.

There are elements which are going to abuse the position, and there is the old boys club mentality (looking out for their own, ostracising those who have the audacity to speak out against it) but that's just good ol' human nature. The vast majority of people want to feel like they're part of and accepted by some wider group, be that family, friends, work or whatever. Once they get that, it takes a person of huge character just to even realise some of the things that group gets up to might not necessarily be the thing that should be happening, even moreso to speak out against it. Even the guys who are supposed to investigate these things!

Of course not all police officers are bastards. You do get some who are understanding, caring and brave.

They have a tough job, some of them are dealing with the dregs of society every day. I imagine it's rather easy to become cynical and think everyone has the capacity for crime in those circumstances, and they can make mistakes and errors of judgment on top of that. But to suggest that they're all going to act on their ability to abuse their position? Heavy, man.

Good Omens was a damn fine book.  What they did with their antichrist character was frankly fucking amazing.
