Everything's bleak and hopeless and I feel lonely and impoverished and without a future.
Oh good, I'm not the only one. [/blackcomedy] [/selfdeprecation] [/bbc_code_are_now_hashtags]

Could be worse though, you just have to look hard enough. For example, you could actually be me. That'd suck.

But optimistic! You're declaring the end of the thing. Only now you've gone and declared the end of the declarations! I'm not sure how to handle this.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Oh god yes. [singing]En Kölle am Rhing ben ich gebore...[/singing]

It's kinda weird that I'll be spending quite a bit of time on Düsseldorf in the next few weeks. It's very hard to get good beer there.
As long as you don't try to order Kölsch in Düsseldorf, you should be fine. Alt is good too, no matter what you've been told.

Kölsch may not be my favourite beer, but I like how you can drink it like water. Combined with the fact that they always serve you a new one unless you tell them not to, this tends to make my memories of Cologne a bit...fuzzy.

Everything's bleak and hopeless and I feel lonely and impoverished and without a future.
Sorry to hear that. If alcohol helped with these kinds of feelings I should feel better any minute now.

Have you considered taking up prostitution and a drug habit? That should get rid of the first four problems, at least for some hours at a time. It might aggravate the last one, though. [/offcolorjoke]

EDIT: Sock, I know - I've been living in the Rhineland all my life. And no matter what people say, Alt is worse than second-hand beer of any other sort.

Oh, it does. Just in certain situations, of course. Can't be wallowing in the corner swigging a bottle alone.

And I feel your feels, scriver. Especially the impoverished part. Its actually kind of odd how many 'sad topic' posts describe how I'm feeling from time to time.

Hehe, I know you have to say that. Still better than Aldi-beer. ;)

It does until it doesn't, that's what I learned in the last 20 years. Homer said it best.

I remembered today that I am always at the bottom of the social pecking order. Whether it be work, high school, college, or grad school.

Being short little man has always rendered me the target of ridicule. Sigh.

Ridicule can be useful, though. Use it to make you tough. Use it to make you STRONK. Use it to hone your comedic timing to deadly accuracy.

An hour and a half drive, and their grounding.

So? Drive that hour and a half. Make 'em sneak out the window with a bedsheet rope. I'd drive more than that just to see most of my friends whether or not they're in trouble.
