what was it about?

There was something about a grandfather marrying a fire priestess, and that resulted for some reason relating to elements to his entire family line save one dying out, and now his last grandson has to fulfill an old bargain and escort a fire priestess somewhere. Clearly a fantasy work, but it seemed to be a unique setting.

I just had the hardest breakup of my life. I feel like dirt.
:/

That sort of thing is never pleasant. Sympathies.
Agreed. Sympathies.

Thanks guys. It's rough. Luckily my dad's being pretty supportive about the whole thing. Hell of a time to happen, on leave and all. I just don't think I will ever find someone like her again, and that scares the hell out of me. Sigh.

No, you won't find someone like her again. You'll find someone different, and even possibly better. Don't be scared; be excited to find someone new and interesting.

That's hard to hear right now, but thanks. I'm sure you are right.

In what sense? Your whole family going away and leaving you at home alone alone?

Yeah, and because of my age, I can't really go to any places that a lot of people tend to go to.

That feeling when your supervisors decide to play musical chairs with who's working what shift today while you've got half a dozen stat deliveries to various parts of the half-a-mile-wide hospital and you already used the last of the tubes for the pneumatic tube system on the last batch of stat drugs, so you're delivering them by hand and the first breather you get all day is waiting for a nurse in one of the psychiatric units to sign for some Ativan, and it turns out the reason you had to wait because a patient was dying about 20 feet down the hallway.

This is why I never want to be a doctor. A doctor wouldn't even have had that breather.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

You don't need to be lonely to do any of those things.
