Damnit Britain.
Since when did we have black friday?!
Since businesses realised that they could make a bunch of money by copying 'murrica's dubious practices.
Sales are dubious...? Christ, I forgot how left-wing / anti-capitalist the lower board is. -.-
Actually I meant the promotion of violent hordes clamouring to pick up things from shops, creating more demand with little regard for human safety.

Ah. That makes sense then. Sorry, I'm not good at reading the obvious at times. Tend to read between the lines... Even when there are no lines to read behind.

The sales by themselves are not dubious. What is dubious is often introducing lower-quality goods (I'm fairly sure some other person on these boards could tell you all about this concept, I've only heard the gist of it) that are sold as their regular counterpart for an admittedly lower price, the hells that people stuck in already fairly bad jobs have to endure during the sales themselves, and of course, the manifestation of pure, all-holds-barred consumerism as people literally get beat up over products that someone else wanted to purchase. Before they're paid for, mind you.

Of course, having never taken part in that sort of insanity I might be biased.

Ah, yeah, I hear you then. Like I said, I didn't fully understand what he posted, and I regret that. My bad. ^_^

Yeah, yeah, we're all communists yadda yadda. Turns out that practise that leads to fights and people being trampled to death isn't necessarily popular. Don't misrepresent the thing we dislike - the whole "willing to let people die to save a bit money" part. Not the sales, but the way they function to cause such behaviour. Last I recall, the half price memory sticks at the local Argos didn't cause a murder-stampede.

Wasn't calling you communists. Just socialists. ;P But seriously, sorry, I had a bad experience on the lower boards where I expressed my opinion on something (That happened to end up being correct, who would have known?) and got shit-tons of replies / private messages of people calling me an ignorant heartless monster. I think I reported the thread so as to get it closed and not get any more hate.

Oh my. That is horrible. :(

My little brother insisted that we go to Toys'R Us on Black Friday last year because his bitch of a mother told him how fun it was. Oh, all the fun deals... Refused to believe it was standing in a line defending your shit from assholes trying to take it from you because his mom went on and on about how great it was. (Missed out on some nice Steam Deals because of it.)

Edited for messing up a quote by accident.

Shh. All you need to do is to learn how to dress your unpopular opinions up with flowers and double meanings. If things go wrong, tell them that you meant it literally and they're being silly. I do it sometimes, it works very well.

There's 14 people in critical condition in hospitals. Apparently there's been a lot of head injuries and crush injuries, reports that people may still be buried in the rubble. It's just getting worse and worse.

Eyewitness reports say that the engine sounded as though it was "spluttering" while it dropped like a stone onto the pub.

The thing about swimming is that it is fun and beneficial.
Shopping is arduous and Black Friday is generally expensive electronic tat that you don't actually want enough to buy normally.

I thought it was fun!
I think we've reached an impasse.
Shopping is inherently awful for me. Coupled with crowds and the entire thing is just a big nope.

Toddlers came over today. I feel kinda bad to say it, but I'm not a fan of kids. I don't really feel entertained around kids, I like things being clean and hate dirt, and feel incredibly awkward around them. I just feel useless. The annoying thing is that I'm not that socially awkward around adults, but dealing with toddlers makes me feel really really awkward. And the really annoying thing is that these ones usually camp out around here for two days or more. I try to help out, but spending more then twenty minutes around them usually makes me want to go to my room and just be alone for an hour.

Ugh. I just feel so incapable right now.

If they're not old enough to have really notable sentience/socialization yet, I've generally found treating them more or less the same as cats to be fairly effective at smoothing interactions. Roughly the same mindset of sociopathic hedonism, roughly the same set of proper actions (barring obvious physical differences, of course) related to distraction and care. Generally more noisy, though. There's particularities to each sort of critter, of course, but I've generally found it to be a pretty fair guideline.

Gotta say, I still find it rather shocking that people die because someone's favourite item was 50% off, and al their common sense flew out the window as a result.

That's... I'm not sure if that's manipulative or magnificent.

I believe the answer to the question is, in this case, 'Yes'.

A few links regarding the crash in Glasgow:

The BBC's summary of the latest events (the police are launching an appeal to find someone who has filmed the crash)

The crash-site in pictures

A summary of events from the Guardian.

A poignant piece by one of my favourite journalists, Kevin McKenna.

Is there any word on what caused it in the first place? Even over here, police helicopters and pilots are generally not allowed to fly in subpar conditions, and your cops tend to have much better budgets.

Engine failure of some kind, no idea what caused it. Investigations are underway.

This seems to be the anthem of the day.

It's not even December yet, and there's already no escaping all the Xmas baloney.  Damn, but I hate this season, which ruins the beauty and solace of winter, year after year.
