Thanks.  I don't think I'm up to talking much right now, but I intend to contact some of you soon.  Thank you for the support.
I'm so sorry to hear that, I know I haven't really interacted much with you, but from what I've heard and read in your posts, you are a pretty wonderful person. I'm around if you want to talk to someone, too (same for anyone else on the forum, if anyone ever needs someone to talk to who won't be judgmental and confidential).

In my sads (which are much less consequential than a lot of the other things said lately in this thread), it appears that every single romantic or romantic-comedy movie with two males as the main characters has been made with the following checklist in mind:
(Select at least one)
[ ] Ends in death of main character(s).
[ ] Ends with main character in hiding or wallowing in self-pity/hatred
[ ] Contains mediocre actors.
[ ] Contains a main character who is insufferable for 90% of film.

Seriously, I've only seen about 1 or 2 really good gay films that don't also make me depressed.

Aww. And now I just read about New Guy, too. :S The sad thread made me sad today.

There is absolutely no reason for me to feel as shitty as I do right now.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I'm looking at a possible 18-hour day right now thanks to needing required maintenance on my truck. God forbid it gets done during the day; instead I work a solid 13 hour shift first, am now on a two-hour waiting list, and the work itself will take who knows how long. And guess who won't be able to sleep a wink until it is all taken care of?

EDIT: Godamnit, it just keeps getting sadder.

Wugh. Feeling kinda depressed because I've got no job, despite handing out a small forests worth of resumes, and still having my parents bitch and whine at me for lacking a job. I realize this, stop insulting me. Why yes, I will stare you down because I just don't give a shit about anything anymore. Fuck me I need out of this house.

I moved out before getting employed.

I wouldn't recommend it. It's not great for motivation - starvation notwithstanding.

You can hand out all the forests of resumes you want, but they won't even give a shit unless you pursue EVERY SINGLE COMPANY with a PASSION LIKE SO MANY DYING SUNS like you want to PROSTRATE YOURSELF IN MASSIVE GENUFLEXION just to get a meagre paypacket. Honestly. Know how many interviews i've gotten from handing resumes out in person?

0.

I've gotten quite a few from applying online though.

I have gotten zero interviews from applying online, plus the shops I'm applying to are small enough I can show up, and talk to the owner if he's there and not busy. And as for dedication, I drove three hours to get to one shop. Dude asked where I was from, and when I said [Hometown] he was like "What. Seriously?".

I've applied to dozens of companies and the only interviews I've ever gotten were from online applications. I've only gotten, like, four interviews total as well and this is after a couple of years. Bah.

Where are you, what jobs are you applying for, and what (if any) skills do you have? I could offer some advice - I'm consistently surprised that people struggle to find jobs when I've been having a hard time filling the few spots I've had at times.

I'm a welder with four CWB(Canadian Welding Bureau) tickets. I have my SMAW(Stick) Flat/Horizontal, GMAW(Mig) Flat, and FCAW(Flux-core) Flat. I'm currently residing in Ontario, about three hours northwest of Toronto.

Hm. Obviously I don't know the area but I _think_ I can compare it to to the US midwest in terms of spread out rurality?

Biggest advice I can give if you're structurally employed is to just work your ass off. Make friends, work for cheap, and go above and beyond. I had to do that when getting started out of high school. I was reluctantly hired by an industrial robotics company out of high school, as a shop assistant and janitor, for minimum wage. But I pulled 16-hour shifts, fixed shop machines cheaper than a certified mechanic could, made sure everything I did was perfect, started hanging out with the engineers and actually teaching them a few things, and pretty damned quick I was a full-fledged prototype developer with a higher income than many guys with Mech.E. degree.

It ain't easy, and no guarantees that will work, but make sure to work smart and hard. 'Work smarter not harder' shit is utter BS in my opinion.
