I think I need people I can tie up and force them to try the things I've tried.

Hmmm... (not serious if this needs to be said... I don't actually want to tie anyone up)

Girl I'm interested in made it quite clear that despite her being interested in me, nothing can happen because of something I did.

Admittedly, what I did was epicly stupid on my part.

If it was daring to express appreciation for the beauty of someone other than her, again... well, that's just silly on her part.

I'm dissappointed because my nephew and step sister were supposed to come visit today, but they never did. :-\

To quote her:

Quote
there are many ways to tell a girl you think she is pretty without sounding like you're hitting on her, and wow you're looking fine is most definitely not one of them.

And it was a public post on facebook, so it immediately got the attention of their mom and some others.

I really think that was assuming too much on her side if
Girl I'm interested in made it quite clear that despite her being interested in me, nothing can happen because of something I did.
this is the outcome. Because it's pretty much a compliment.

Well, she sees it as me publicly embarrassing her, so... yeah.

We'll see how it turns out.

Wait, so the problem was that you told her she looked good?

I told her sister that she looked good. She and her mom viewed it as me hitting on said sister.

Okay, that's what I thought had happened.

There is nothing wrong with telling someone else they look good, fine, gorgeous, or whatever. You can even compliment a specific feature of theirs, like their smile, or their pair of well-developed eyebrows. It is no more wrong than talking about how beautiful you find the sunset.

There is nothing about this situation that isn't salvagable, especially if you explain yourself well, and help them create a realistic perspective on the situation. I'm having a hard time putting this gently... but perhaps you can find a better way to point out how exceedingly egotistical it is to demand, before you'd ever consider a relationship with someone else, that they never find anything other than you pretty. Seriously... that's just insecure and silly.

EDIT: If all else fails, quote some Sonett #130. YOLO, etc.

Just state that there was no other intention in saying that. Because it is a compliment. Nothing else. :/ Because that isn't not salvageable in my opinion >_>

Or maybe it's just me and cultural differences..err, I'd go with Shakespeare.

Bleh... jealousy pisses me off... don't understand it, and my tolerance for it has been completely eroded...

This is when I would go "I'm sorry I don't date crazy people" and break it off with her. Or at the very least make it very clear that I'm not going to tolerate crazy, at least not of that sort. Because that's kind of crazy.

Eh, it's less the fact that she's jealous, and more about what her mom and friends think.
