I watched Grave of the Fireflies.

*sniff* *sniff*

Ultimate sad:  it's a true story.  Maybe not completely true, but the author based the story on his own childhood.  The boy character is literally him, except he survived to write the story as an apology to his sister for failing to take care of her.

Nono, it's not a "mostly true story" it's "that fucking movie that makes you cry gallons of tears."

On the subject of movies about Hiroshima, the cover for Barefoot Gen is a LYING ASSHOLE.

Are you guys me? This is almost exactly what I've been thinking about. The whole stupid "go to college to get a job to get a family etc" routine that seems so hopelessly monotonous and/or overwhelming and/or futile.

Personally, I feel disconnected with other people about this. I get that I'm supposed to go to college because "Education and Whatnot" and I know I'm eventually going to have to do everything like paying taxes and buying a house and getting a career but at the same time I honestly don't seem to believe any of that will happen. It's hard to describe. It's like hearing someone describe a crazy new colour to you, but you just can't perceive it because it's completely outside of your understanding.

I feel like men are given a bit more leeway in the "I'd rather fuck off and go live on a little island somewhere" ambition.
Replace "island" with "mountaintop" and I'm sold. Islands seem way too humid and...humid. And there'd be water everywhere. And it'd be humid, too.

Of course, screwing off to live in happy isolated vacation-life is most likely completely impossible as of today.

You can add The Iron Giant to that list.

You could move to Siberia, Himilayas, or the Amazon. Great isolated places of the world.

I'm pretty sure total isolation could most easily be achieved in a large city.
Pay for everything online or over the phone, get food delivered, never go outside, enter a strange dreamworld when you go to sleep, wear a pink sweater with a black and white pattern. Simple.

If you move to Siberia you need to grow a beard and wrestle bears though.

And boars.
The boars are terrifying.

Yes but eventually you can tame and train the bears and boars giving you an army for WORLD DOMINATION.

Bah, POPPY COCK. You just need a great beard, and survival skills.

By great beard I mean:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyways, on the topic of sadness. Both Marley and Me and I am Legend made me cry when the dogs in the movies died.

That's exactly the type of magnificent beard you need.

But yes i have a soft spot for dogs (and cats but less so than dogs) so even though I've never seen I am Legend the scene in Marley and Me was very sad to me.

For some reason people get really emotional about when dogs die.
Been playing Skyrim and in the end I had to tell the stray dog to go home because he died too easily and I just couldn't have that.
