Ahh yes, the time-honored "we've invested two decades of ours lives and tens of thousands of dollars into making you who you are. Now PAY UP."

Glad you think its cute and it made you laugh, even if it was sarcastic.

I'm being perfectly serious, however; if this trucking thing doesn't work out, I'll be 8k further in the hole. Being a sort of anti-role model might be my last resort.

£349 for PS4
despite it being $399 ~= £250
I may as well get a gaming PC for that money.

Yeah, Europe got it pretty bad, especially considering that down in Australia you can just buy an American one (since the PS4 is region-free and I think Australia uses NTSC)

Well, found out girl who dumped me left me for some other dude she was apparently already seeing or talking to... Feeling pretty used. She deleted me off of Facebook for no good reason either; I'd said literally zero words about the whole thing. Trying not to let it get to me, but with it being the first time I've let myself really open up to someone again since my last real girlfriend, like a total idiot, it hurts a little.

Hnn, from what I know we use PAL in Australia.

Apparently my mom is crying in the other room because I'm immature, naive, and don't make 80k a year fresh out of undergrad.
How many people with math degrees actually make that? There's only so many University tenures to go around, and I can't imagine there's all that many high-paying jobs for any sort of theoretical science outside of Universities.

Wait, does any career path make $80,000 right out of undergrad?

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Yes.

It's called "computer science in Silicon Valley."

@DJ: So, the deal is that over here people tell you "Ooh, go into math, you'll be an easy hire for all the CS companies who want people who know how to think!"

Ha.  Ha.  Ha.  That changed real fast over the past couple years.

Ha.  Ha.

I started in mechanical engineering.  Then I left for math, because engineering wasn't difficult enough to keep my interest.
