We had a Furries Thread going for a while, but it has been ended. I thought it was actually going not-terribly, despite the rocky start... it's an internet subculture that often goes under-examined, because it tends to evoke strong feelings in people, which sparks the usual flame wars and such. I kinda wish it had stuck around; I'd have liked to get a better handle on what it is about it that people do and don't find acceptable, or at which point it stops being cute, and starts being weird. Cultural Relativity, and all that.
Yeah, that's a shame. I figured Bay 12 would be one of the few places the subject could be discussed without immediately devolving into a flame war.
It didn't. There were apparently pictures or something and Toady lockdown.
I know. I'm glad it didn't become a flame war. What I'm saying is that in many other places the thread wouldn't have been nearly as lucky.
Oh yeah, everyone was cool and not hating and [INSERT BRO SAYINGS HERE].

I went to the bookstore today with R$75 I'd been saving up for a copy of Grande Sertão: Veredas. While there, I found a copy of Os Sertões by da Cunha (that's the guy who provides my avatar and personal text). Now, I already have a copy of Os Sertões, but it's a mass-market paperback, albeit one printed fairly sturdily, and the copy I saw in the bookstore was the centennial edition hardcover, so of course I want it. Then on the way out I saw a copy of Os Maias for sale, which I'd completely forgotten about, but will now have to get a copy of...

I'm an idiot. Take away my wallet.

You could just do like I do when I have to enforce some serious frugality, and never carry money around at all. Unless you know exactly what you're going to purchase ahead of time, and only purchase that item.

Combine that with a credit union that made it difficult for me to access my money, and voila! Should the urge to impulse-buy ever wear down my resolve (pretty much doesn't happen, but just in case), the inconvenience of accessing my money would give me enough time to reinstate my willpower.

I'm an exchange student and could probably have steak for dinner every night if I were on my own, such is my financial situation (rich host parents). I can't really bring it back, though, since the real has crap purchasing power when converted back to dollars.

To be fair, being furry is a porn thing.
So yeah, not a thing that's going to stick.

But discussing a thread in the thread is too meta, better to talk about it behind it's back.

Well, if one is better than two, then three must be even better.

That bad, that fast... ?  Wow...

I'm about to go take an exam I've been studying for quite assiduously over the past 5 days.  I hope I do well, though I'm scared I won't.

You think that's bad? We still have people who think the Onion is an actual news source >_>

No, its not THAT bad. It reminded me, however, of that particular "Onion is a real news source" thing people are passing around as actual fact and makes me feel sorry for a fraction of humans and their stupidity. D:
