I feel horrible, especially because I don't know anyone else who pulls this stupid crap.

Everyone. Trust me. Frightening as that is...

Vector, I'm doing the same thing right now with a REAL application process...

Also, yeah, confirming the Epic people are pretty... zealous... with their recruitment practices and it's pretty widely known. They ARE a real company who DO do real work, but they only employ about 1,500 people a year and churn through maybe a hundred (probably far more) times that in applications.

And from everything I've heard, actually working there is ... well, not terrible, but not great. Their turnover is incredibly high, even for the industry - after all, they hire 1,500 people a year, and the company size is only a little over 5,000. The general consensus seems to be "Not worth working in Wisconsin for".

They will do everything in their power to convince you you have the job locked... until it turns out you don't, and no one was ever seriously considering you anyway. I wouldn't stress overmuch about it as a missed opportunity, but hey! Getting contacted by an Epic recruiter is basically a right of passage in any programming or math related hiring process. :P

Huh, now I wonder if I've ever been contacted by them. I ignore any positions outside of San Diego, so it's quite possible.

I told them to kiss my ass :I

I gotten better offers for work around here than to cheese-head capital, granted my programming skills are alot useful here for companies that do alot of  business and database management programming. Hell i got a internship opp for Cisco at North Carolina, internship to ship me across the country, pretty stupid especially dont have housing covered either. I'm in a tech capital already so theres no point for me looking outofstate (unless i want to escape mormon-ville early)

North Carolina is pretty awesome, especially for the IT field. Just sayin.  :D

I have a theory that America is actually a dystopia, just no-one acknowledges it because they think it's just a problem with the state they are in.

First I thought it was just Detroit that was thought of as a cesspool. Then it was Georgia. Then New Jersey. Now everywhere in the southern united states is terrible.

... Scratch "no-one acknowledges it", actually.

I have a theory that the whole world is a dystopia, and everyone thinks that it's just a problem with their country.

Someone, anywhere, is going to be miserable.

Eh, I'm perfectly happy in San Diego.

... nah. There's actually some pretty decent places in and around the states. I can't. I can't actually name them, off the top of my head. But they're out there, I've been through a few, met some folks that live in some. Art towns, college towns, some of the tech industry joints. Overall decent places with overall decent people, with things to do and not so much of a bigotry taint to them. Alright joints.

But yeah, large swathes of the south are kinda' a shithole if you've got any particular interest besides drinking (/various other drugs) and fucking. It's just. Kinda' boring down here if you're not heavy into nature stuff or unwilling to deal with a bigotry epidemic. Pockets of relative decency but generally just kinda' unpleasant unless you're unpleasant. Some stuff in and around the more populated areas, but those kinda' have their problems. What with being, y'know, populated areas surrounded by a lot of drugs and poor people. Kinda' concentrated in the tri-state area (Georgia/Alabama/Florida), but from what I've noticed that's just kinda' how the south rolls.

Not sure how the rest of the place is, so far. Mostly been in the south-east. Wasn't out west long enough to get a feel for things (and was too young to really pay attention), and not gone far enough north to get a feel for the north-east. Furthest north I've been is North Carolina, which I roughly internalize as a place about as bigoted as Florida (at least outside of the cities, but that's about how it is down here.), but with better music, better scenery, and better weather. S'like. Fuck, if it wasn't for the people NC'd kinda' be a paradise. If it still had the bluegrass. Maybe the bears could be trained or something, I'unno.

Florida's about like that, too, though, I guess. If it weren't for the people and the weather it'd be pretty great down here. Beautiful place, just miserable to live in.

Have this feeling of an imminent depression, not sure why but I have lost all will to do anything but drone away at home for most of the day. I could study I guess, but it takes an immense amount of energy to get started, something I'm not sure how to save up. Oh well, I'll try and weather it for another week before Easter swings by (that's another shitty thing, we're getting two days off instead of the usual week or so) and I get a chance to go back home and hopefully do something fullfilling.

Also feeling this incredible urge to dig, like, with a shovel and a pick for some reason, nothing in particular, just moving dirt around :S
