Ah, so I'm not stupid, just lazy. I always suspected as much.

More seriously, intelligence is just a consequence of hard work anyway.
I'd quibble with the latter statement. I'm the classic "blew tests out of the water without even trying, so fuck studying" sort of person, which meant never developing critical study habits or work ethic.

Not "just", but hard work can be a contributing factor. I can get A's and B's at almost anything without ever trying with the exception of advanced math. Getting through that took some hard work.

I was too, until I got into actually difficult subjects. Which is when it became apparent that I'd actually been set back by that.

And back then I was constantly absorbing information. It may have been enjoyable, but that doesn't mean it wasn't work.

Yeah, me too. Stupid above average intellect/test taking skills, making me lazy.

I always hated having to show my work in math. Because the way my brain worked, having to show the basic steps of arthimetic used to arrive at the end result was painful and clumsy...like having to show how you walk by detailing each discreet movement of the leg.

You'd probably prefer proof problems then, where the logical steps you take to arrive at the proposition actually make sense.

No, having to show any kind of work was just a pain in the ass. My mind is a black box -- give me the info, let it do its thing, and it'll spit out an answer. I don't like having to document the messy details of how it works in there.

Spoiler: You called? (click to show/hide)

Now I'm sad, because that was an occasionally funny show. It was no Ren and Stimpy, but for a while there it was about the best next thing.

Hey, it also featured Michael Dorn as a hypeintelligent weasel. That kind of demands attention. xD

I think I also did this to myself.

I was so much like this that in 7th-8th grade Algebra I never did any homework or paid attention through most of class, but I would ace every test by figuring out how to do the problems for the first time while taking it.

But this is one of many reasons the education system gets so much criticism for its extreme over-emphasis on standardized testing, and failure to motivate or properly teach anyone outside a very limited range of personality and learning styles.

A girl from my class overdosed on some kind of tablets (kind of ones for sore throat iirc) in school, and she lost conciousness mid-lesson, they had to get her out to the hospital. Its sad and our teacher told us that quite a lot of people do that in our school, which make it even more sad.

Kid in my NJROTC platoon, which is first period, killed himself last night.  And he was one of those people who always seemed happy and upbeat.  Always the people you least expect.
