I'm sad that my comment caused so many problems, had I anticipated this, I would have kept it to myself.

No no no no no no no NO.

Never think things like that :( you did nothing wrong, so don't feel regretful. Got it? It's bad to feel bad due to what other people do.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

It wasn't your comment that caused problems. You shouldn't think that.

I realized that I'll never really know anything about my family history. Most of my family either hates each other, is extremely racist, or dead. Or all of the above. I can't talk to any close relatives about it, because they largely keep quite about other family members as if something terrible happened they can't ever speak of, or they're just extremely stubborn. Hell, I barely even know if I'm part irish, dutch, english or what.

Laying the verbal smack down on a friend for spreading horribly misinformed and harmful fundamentalist propaganda on my facebook.  She's complaining about god not being allowed in schools.   ::)   Her kids are a couple of my kid's best friends.  I really hope she can be mature about this.

Tell her that gods aren't allowed in school because they failed a logic exam, causing them to flunk out entirely. :P

The meat of my argument was that god IS allowed in school.  However, her god isn't taught in school, because it would only be fair if kids learned about all gods, not just hers.  I also had to educate her on the history of the pledge of allegiance.

It pisses me off, because I've already seen signs of my kid being slowly turned Christian by osmosis and peer pressure and even some school teaching.  Just a few days ago he came home and told me "Did you know Christmas is Jesus' birthday?"  I asked him how he learned that and he responded "We sang songs about it in music class!"  He's already told me he believes in god and asks why we don't go to church.  We need to get the fuck out of Indiana.

Explain to him your views, and explain to him his views. Neither are wrong... per se... Imho a child should be allowed to select his/her own religion, but if it's osmosis/peer/school teaching, then i'd call that tantamount to indoctrination.

What are your views, SalmonGod?

The best way you can ensure he never becomes a Christian is to tell him everything about Christianity. Seriously.
