Seriously though, and I've probably got no place to be saying it considering the last posts I've made in here, we should probably take rainforest shenanigans elsewhere. Sad thread's getting IRC derailed, methinks.

You know I realized why I'm fine with abattoirs and nom nom nom chicken but draw a line with rainforests - we kinda need those on our planet to stay alive.
So yeah, if you want to start the Rube Goldberg machine that heralds our extinction...

Perhaps some may find this a tad hypocritical, but perhaps a new thread just for this issue is in order. . . it certainly deserves it and the volume of response is immense and over a few threads now.  And I don't mean rainforests, although. . .

5: It is also ok to "kill" non-living structures.

6: It is also ok to "kill" various chemical reactions.

0: It is also ok to kill people.

-1: It is also ok to kill gods.

The only variable is the allowable set of reason and methods used to kill.

As a general rule with a few exceptions, the higher the number on the list, the fewer restriction on why and how are required in order to remain within ethical parameters, I have rational reasons for those distinctions, but not everyone does.

your assuming humans are in the grand shcme of things "special" for all we know we could be the bottom of some lies forms planet, our kind would be like bugs or micro life.

What if to them WE are chickens, yes we feel, maybe they do something more that like chickens we cant even begun to think of, in which case by your logic we should be chickens to them.

Any animal as a species must put their species ahead of others, otherwise they are doomed to extinction. It's a little different for us, because we're so advanced and have terraformed our landscape so much; but all the same, we have to put our species first.

As it is, there is not high enough demand for dogs to keep up with supply, so what do we do? We cannot let them roam free. Wild dogs are very vicious predators.

Additionally, I am sure you've heard of zoonoses?
Dog + Rabies + Human = Human with Rabies. Not a good thing.

Cow + BSE + Human = vCJD. Also not a good thing.
Mosquito + Dengue + Human = HUman with dengue. Excruciatingly painful.
Assassin bug + Chagas + Human = massive epidemic in the South Americas that attacks your heart.

Need I say more? We exterminate some animals because they are un-needed; freeing animals may cause either a greater outbreak of zoonoses or similar issues.


If we're a lower animal on a planet, then we would be subjugated entirely, and I would consider that normal (while not necessarily right).

There's a difference between defence against wild animals, and harnessing breeding/animals for an human industry.

No. Dodos wasn't hunted for food. Dodos were so dumb that killing them was so easy that they killed too much of them to be able to eat them all.

But most killing DO have a reason behind the killing. It may seems mad to you, but there's always a reason. Madmen do have reasons, as twisted as it is.

No. Dodos wasn't hunted for food. Dodos were so dumb that killing them was so easy that they killed too much of them to be able to eat them all.

He said killing gods was "-1".

Dodos were eliminated because they couldn't compete with rats and rats ate their eggs.  They had no natural predators.

And did he advise against god-killing? . . .

Its a general rule.

Gods are at -1 based on the assumption that if they were not fiction, they might possible be that higher form of life that is as far beyond us as we are beyond the chickens you guys were talking about abstractly before. Or they might not, and the general rule would have an exception.
