Found myself hoping the Mayans were right. It would simplify things a great deal.  :(

So very true. "Hey, the sky turned blood-red. I'm... Going to go get high now, is that okay, Judge? Oh, you'll throw me in prison? For ten minutes? That's okay, I'll die happy."

Here's hoping that blood-red sky isn't just an extra nice sunrise, huh? :P

Given everything I've got to look forward to over the next few months, fiery death from the skies isn't a bad option.

I'm lonely enough to the point where I talked my landlord's ear off earlier when I meant to just ask a couple questions. My roommates are either asleep or off the property and I have no one else to talk to outside of this forum, save my mother who is dealing with some kind of really bad cold. Plus I'm incredibly nervous about my appointment with the Section 8 intake specialist tomorrow and I'm afraid I might oversleep and miss the only bus that could get me to her office before my appointment at 9:00 AM. Further more I just feel down in general and am wanting someone to play with because I am tired of playing by myself. Unfortunately no one around here likes video games except me.

I think I'm going to lie down for a few moments. I hope I don't go into one of my blackouts again.

Oh joy...surprise conference call at 4:30 to discuss an "update" regarding our contract status. That bodes well. You always give people good news just before they're done for the day, right?  ::)

Just one more straw for the camel.

They are only supposed to fire people on friday, apparently having a weekend to think about shit prevents workplace revenge attacks more often than not.

It wouldn't be an immediate canning. Our contract has been extended through 22 Mar of next year. But beyond that, we've run out of extension provisions in the original contract. So either they'd need to get us a real contract, or negotiate a new short-term contract while we're busy protesting the long-term contract being award to Lockheed (as we have been for the last....what, 9-12 months or so??)

And even then, technically HP wouldn't fire us for a month after that, they'd just have to find new work for us internally. But then, they're busy looking for 20,000 positions to eliminate. I don't think they're going to look too hard. At least I might get a severance package out of it. That might soften the otherwise razor-like edges of the impending divorce and all the financial nightmare that's going to become.

Oh, have I mentioned that life FUCKING SUCKS lately?? Cause, y'know....it does.
You know what? Fuck this shit. That gives me about 4 months to relearn Mandarin. Maybe I'll just say fuck it and head for the Middle Kingdom. Won't have anybody to tie me down anymore, and my kids already seem to be just fine not seeing me very often. I'm disposable.

Hardly disposable, kids go into shock during life-changing events.  It'll hit them all of a sudden.

I think it's more that they're so young. They're still figuring out what "normal" is. So Daddy suddenly living in a different house across town and only seeing them a couple of times a week is just as normal as any other scenario for them, I guess.

I think what made me die inside was when my daughter stopped asking when I was coming back, and just started saying things like "Yeah, that was when you lived with us." Took all of two weeks. They're happy to see me when I'm around, but fuck...they're happy to see the ice cream truck too.

Best part of all this? This is exactly what my relationship with my own father was like. Dude showed up once, twice a year, showered some money around the place, and then he was gone again. I should stop now, before I lose it. I don't have the luxury of self-pity.

Be there for your kids, dude. Don't abandon them.

My sad: An acquaintance of mine said that he hopes to fully repress his homosexuality "within a few years." I'm disgusted and concerned at the same time. Hate it when people harm themselves like that.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Don't underestimate them. Children understand more than they're usually given credit for, and a lot of them just don't speak up about it. They'll come to understand a lot more as time passes and they realize the significance of events they witnessed but did not understand at the time.

They're just adjusted to the new normal. They aren't asking when you're coming back because they already know (well enough) when you're coming back through pattern recognition. As this has become the new normal, they see nothing strange about casually referencing the past normal of you living with them. Recall that time perception is different in young children. Two weeks is still a meaningful percentage of their experienced lifespan. I remember when I was little two weeks would be an eternity of time.

My parents separated once when I was seven, just for two months or so. It felt like it was years to me.

That isn't the same thing. Weekly visits =/= yearly visits.

If I take the plunge and move far away for employment, it'll be more like yearly visits, if that.

I suppose I can always Skype them as they get older. That's better than nothing.

But hey...I'm getting all melancholy and bullshit before I need to. Think it's just that we had a counselling session today, and it didn't go well. She's back to looking daggers at me and lobbing verbal grenades when she can. Can't really blame her.
