It's quicker and easier to condemn based on absurd dogmatic imperatives thought up by a bunch of dudes who claimed they'd been given by an omnipotent, omniscient (notions which are themselves naive at best, moronic at worst) entity than, y'know, trying to have an original idea of one's own, and sifting through the mountains of data referring to some topic or conducting field research separately to come up with an arguably informed opinion on something and living with the doubt and uncertainty that the interpretation of finite data through one's limited, subjective experience may, in fact, have generated an erroneous conclusion.

Relying on dogma guarantees you won't need to expend enough mental energy to power a diode.

I should know better, but...

Homosexuality is meant as a test of sorts.  Same as evil.

Homosexuality is wrong because it is pointless pleasure.  You cannot make children with homsexual acts.  In fact, nothing but pleasure can come of it.  Pleasure for the sake of pleasure (esp. in a way that detracts from other, more fruitful endeavors) is corupting and inefficient.

In the same vein, thinking homosexual thoughts themselves is not 'evil' or wrong, but acting upon said thoughts is.  Everybody goes through temptations, and everyone has to question their sexuality at some point in their life; especially in today's society where even cartoons adress it.  (a concept gains acceptence simply from repeated exposure, and I personally think the constant media exposure is what drove the gay-rights movement forward with such force.  All the family guys and Always Sunny in Philidelphias are constantly making homosexual references, and even childrens shows (SpongeBob being a noteable example) and games (that gay Yoshi dude-Chick thing) are exposing us to it, and something that is always there cannot be so bad, can it?  In this sense it really is a media conspirancy; intentional or not).

I've never heard of love referred to as "pointless."

And besides, I'm not sure why a "pointless pleasure" would be a problem anyway. So is watching TV. Playing video games. There is no problem in any sort of pleasure unless it involves harming others.

Disapproval of all pleasure not involved with glorifying God was somewhat common in the early days of America and its colonies. Much better that all sex focus on baby making which is important to a cosmic entity because... um... because babies are good and we need them for the Second Coming? That sounds right, and I'll ignore all the dirty reasoning which says otherwise.

Mine's clearly different from pisskop. Quite seriously different actually.

For one, homosexuality is not a sin. It's a clearly describable scientific phenomenon, for which the genes have probably been identified. ((Which means that you can technically cure homosexuality, but not really.))

It might have been referenced to as a sin, in some way or another, but that's just the Bible being a bit outdated.

What you do have to pay attention to (My interpretation as well as others, including several important people) are the underlying , the most basic morals. (No not those morals, have to go deeper). At this point you get to find an undoing of the most basic foundations of primitive religions. These are the scapegoat principle and the mimetic principles, as well as several others. Basically a dismanteling of the Eye for an eye mechanic, and others.

It's not a perfect interpretation, but it works for me, and can't be used to justify killing entire parts of the population.

Homosexual relationships are wrong in the eyes of the one who designed the reproductive process. A robot that dosen't function the way it was designed might gain sympathy in the eyes of it's mechanical peers, but that doesn't mean it's working. Again, I can only give a specific answer to a specific question.

I do not consider it a 'sin' per se.  Its inefficient.  Its another drop in the barrel.  Its a distraction.  As a base pleasure it corupts, same as gaming does.  The time I spend gaming is time better spent working or studying or making more connections; the kind a relatively poor guy like me needs to pay for expensive school.

I would like to make it clear I am not religious.  I have studied all the major ones to some degree or another, and honestly find judaism and Hinduism most to my liking.  Both appeal for different reasons.  But I do believe in 'one divine being', that said.

And, even if I choose to leave God out of the picture, it has no negative value reproduction-wise.

How long would a thread on this subject last?  Any point trying?

Love = Emotions.  A system of hormones and chemicals meant to make you capable and willing to defend another's interests as your own.  Love itself is somewhat inefficient, and because strong emotion is attatched to something does not make it any more practical.  That's on any subject.

Ah well to further debate you I'd have to go into systems of value. IMO love is an end, not a means to any further goal, and it has a hell of a lot of value, no matter who the two (or more, I guess) people are or what equipment they have between their legs.

I think I've officially decided that I hate it here. There's nothing to do, it's cold as fuck, I'm sick all the time, I'm tired all the time, my roommate is my roommate, I don't relate to anyone, and I just don't have anything approaching a life.

I am so sick of these base pleasure obsessed, frequently bigoted, noisy, shallow assholes I am around constantly. My roommate may be an exceptional case, but pretty much everyone else around here only seems to care about sex and drugs as well.

These next three and a half years are going to be a trial, I think.
