Yours is the fist that will face-punch the heavens.
"Please, MZ," the Sky will say, "Don't punch me," and he will look up, and he will say "No."
And then he will punch the Sky the face.

Ah man. When is he gonna punch the Sun? And also magma? Possibly the moon too.

Look out Solar system, MaximumZero will punch you in the face. If you don't have a face to punch, he will punch one onto you just to punch it.

Somehow a weekend of river tubing and fun project coding turned into nothing but writing unit tests and javadocs.

I wasn't feeling well and skipped the drunken river tubing. And then got sidetracked on programming stuff.

Ways to utterly ruin a father to son talk:

- Tell him the solution to all his problems is he needs to "just do it" when he has ADD, the mental condition that makes that sort of thing impossible.
- Tell him that you don't agree with the "lifestyle" choices of the people in a dorm you were looking at, at exactly the point where he was thinking about coming out about being bi.
- Blame everything on his mother.
- Say "I know what you're going through" when you've never actually had depression.
- Go on and on about religious things when your son has all but said point blank he's not interested in religion.

My father is trying really hard and he does care, but that's all I can say good about our little chat. Excuse me while I cry in a corner for a while.

On the bright side I suppose, I think I fully understand why people get angry when you give advice instead of sympathy. That's a perspective I never really understood until now. Fuck advice. I just want some goddamn sympathy from my family.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Something I learned from my interpersonal communications class: though of course there is some variation, men and women tend to give two distinct kinds of help to people they feel need it. Women tend to give sympathy. Men tend to give advice. It's just his way of trying to help you; remove the problem that's causing the reaction. It might not even be good advice, but he's trying. Have you tried talking to someone else about it first? (Perhaps your mother?) That might make you feel better so that you can talk to him later.

EDIT: I just realized how meta that advice was.

Meta means 'beyond' - usually 'being meta' is... difficult to explain. It's kinda sorta the reverse of Inception/yo dawg, to explain it in meme version; it's using the methods inside of a thing to deal with the thing itself. I suppose that if I were to stuff Toady's apartment full of cats, it'd be sort of meta, along with extremely fluffy.

Yeah, "meta" is talking about the concepts themselves.

Anywho, my mother is NOT someone I can talk to. Last time I came out to them with something big (my being a vegetarian), she got very angry and demanded to know who "made" me become one. I can't imagine religion or sexuality going over much better. In fact I think it'll be a hell of a lot worse. I think I'll save those until after I'm self sufficient (if ever...) so I can survive being thrown out of the house.

I'm considering coming out to my brother, which is weird since he's always been the one to laugh at me when I talked to him about things. Maybe I'm just running out of options and getting desperate.

Huh... coming out as a vegetarian, of all things, seems to be a very non-controversial and mundane thing to do. Perhaps it's just me ...?

I agree with this. While i would never think about being a vegetarian (i like meat too much), i dont see how something like that is weird, let alone unacceptable.

A classmate's father died. Her family is living overseas, so she has to go back there and forfeit the whole school year.

This gives me a sad.

Apparently it is to my family. I still have issues with them actually buying things I can eat; they went out of their way a while back to starve me. That has since gone away, thankfully.

Now imagine something more controversial, like sexuality. I think I'm justified in being scared. And that makes me feel quite sad, that I have to keep up a wall of lies to keep myself safe from my own goddamn family.

Yeah. Not to mock your situation, kaijyuu, but that sounds like a Kids in the Hall sketch or something.

"Mom, Dad....I have something to tell you. I....I don't eat meat."
"Oh my God!"
"I won't have a...a...broccoli-eater in my house!"
"This is all my fault! If only I hadn't burnt the pot roast so much....*sob*"
