Been told I can't be treated for Gender Dysphoria (Being Trans) if I'm depressed. Of course, the Gender Dysphoria is the cause of the depression.

Next plan: Lie to the doctor, pretend I'm perfectly fine aside from the whole not being female yet thing.

(By 'be treated' I mean hormones, voice training and eventually surgery, not being 'cured' at those bloody camps.)

What sort of psychologist wouldn't recognize that? I recommend you get a new one.

Might be some legal thing. Wouldn't surprise me if there were laws against gender treatments when the patient has conditions that "might affect their judgement," which of course would include depression.

But psychologists are typically pretty smart about that sort of thing, at least ones that regularly deal with GID issues.

A lot of them are really damn slow about it (read: years to get an appointment with an endocrinologist) but I feel like anyone who knows anything about trans issues should realize when someone's depressed because they're trans. To me it feels like lecturing a trans person on hiding things from their family, when they're hiding their trans identity from their family.

It's NHS policy, which means it's written by someone with no knowledge of the issues involved, who lives in a box and feels that any money that has to be spent is coming straight from his pockets.

To be honest, all I need to do is look fine at my next appointment and remember to keep lying. Annoying, given how many other hoops they expect me to jump through, but not that bad.

There have been documented cases where depression has been the sole cause of gender issues. That's why that policy is in place.

Shouldn't it be up to the psychiatrist to determine whether it's the "cause" or the "effect"? Because if it's an effect of their gender issues, then stalling trans treatments is the opposite of helpful.

That's not why it's in place. Gender therapy has incredibly low rates of regret when compared to other types of therapy and surgery that are gated and regulated far less.

This is starting to remind me of "You can't do that." "Why?" "Because you are crazy, we aren't allowed to let people do this who are crazy." "How am I crazy?" "Because you want to do that."

If I understand you right, then it's sad they basically make you lie.

There have been documented cases where depression has been the sole cause of gender issues. That's why that policy is in place.

Agree to disagree. Everything about how transgender standards are set is horrible. The "real life test" meant to determine if you can live as a woman, does no such thing. It determines if you can live as a man in a dress. No one can in this society. If I am ever so fortunate as to transition, I will never do so in the United States. Even Iran treats its transsexuals better than we do, though for all the utterly wrong reasons.

In other news, it seems my mother likes to gamble much more than she should. Naturally, they have just put in a casino.... This has all sorts of implications not to be gotten into right now.

People hate taxes but love Casinos. I suppose the flashing lights make the difference? Casinos are a tax on people who don't get math.

Casinos abuse the concept of hope. You hope you'll win it big, just one more pull of the slot machine...

It's like one of those fantasy monsters that feed on emotions. Only monetized.
