Agreed sometimes, but a.) "public employees," b.) everyone doesn't hate doctors (see: lawyer jokes, all of them), c.) even after expenses I'm still betting you come out way ahead of public defenders, d.) I've had 19 people threaten to harm me for doing my job (8 in person 11 over the phone, etc; of those 8 in person threats, 5 had weapons). They're often pissed I couldn't get them off for the crime they frankly did, or because I made them pay alimony and child support to their ex wife of 10 years. You know, the little things.

You'd be surprised. The general rule is that if they get better it's because of their robust constitution, but if they don't then it's your fault.

My base salaryy is 1100€, plus night shifts, minus expenses. Not very awesome. If I had debts I'd be truly screwed.

(granted, I'm a first year resident. I expect this will get somewhat better by the time I'm a full specialist)

Monthly, minus taxes, plus night shifts. And minus expenses, later, of course.

everyone doesn't hate doctors
I should interject here - maybe not everyone, but lots of people DO. A lot of them would almost certainly even threaten the doctors, but don't, because that's what doctors have nurses and oderlies and desk workers for - a nice shield of insulation against the public to keep them sane.

But I know quite a lot of people who see doctors as nothing but leeches, and pretty lump them in the same bin as lawyers, i.e. those who make "absurd" profit of the suffering of others (specifically the people doing the hating, obviously ;)).

I wish. Workplace violence has been a very talked about issue lately. Threats are very usual. And while rarer, sometimes they're followed by physical violence.
(for the record, I've never been attacked in that regard, but I've been active for less than a month, and not a lot of it towards the public. As a student I did see a couple of people getting verbally aggressive against the doctor with whom I was rotating.

Primary care physicians are the most frequent victims of this (since I'm not specializing in primary care this shouldn't be a problem. Except that, as per my contract, I do have ER room duties for the first year of my residency. D'oh!).

I hate music class. Its not so bad when we do theory, but practice... ugh.
(not like we learn how to read notes or ANYTHING, we just randomly talk about shit and then everybody forgets it and moves on.)

I'm very much aware young professionals get screwed in general, but with all due respect, that's actually not bad from what I've heard, and especially given all the benefits of living in Europe v. the US. However, I will say, call me when you feel you have to buy a bulletproof vest.... I own 3.

So this really cool host of a documentary series in BiH which focused on going around the place, finding odd places, habits and people, talking with them and pretty much being very nice overall died today. He was operated because his liver failed I belive but ultimately while he was stable he died of lung related issues.

Also we learned Entropy in physics today, while it's nothing new it always gets me kinda down :/

Willfor, I'm gonna check out those links myself later...

Also, Jopax, can you tell me what the series was? Sounds good.

My sad today:
Despite making progress musically, it still seems so god damn slow. I've been taking lessons for ... 8? weeks now, a month and a half, and we're still working on getting through my first song (though 2 of those were working on another song as a break and to introduce some other concepts). It's like... a week to learn the basic strum pattern (1/8 v-v^-^v^) and the first chord progression, another weeks practice on the rythm and the chords for the second part of the verse and the chorus, a week putting the whole song together and getting the vageries and small differences between the verses and choruses (and learning to sing along), a week getting the picking pattern for the intro and trying to improve my speed, and a week learning the new strumming pattern (1/16 v/2-v/2-v^v^v/2-v/2-v^v^) and trying to edge ever closer to the 165bpm the song is actually at (was almost there till we switched to the new pattern.

And now I've realized I'm having to learn to sing the entire song all over again to play with the new strumming pattern because I certainly can't anymore, and I'm working on some exercises, and it feels like dear god why is this taking so fucking long I should HAVE this by now. It's just one bloody song.
