The state bar and ethics people are giving me shit about calling it a "law office" instead of a "law firm" for my solo practice. Really?
Don't you guys have drunken attorneys to go after who aren't me?
You know, the ones who let it interfere with their work or show up to court hammered...? Or I mean something else besides a one word difference? It's good to know the state is admitting to being at least $8 Billion upside down but what little resources we have are used like this...? Balls.... Really?
I will admit it seems incredibly inconsequential, but it is ultimately valid in that to declare a "law firm" as a "law office" is equivalent to attempting to have a sole/general/limited liability proprietorship or legal personality pass for physical property.
Aside from my having a physical office, that's not really the issue.
The issue is one can't be "deceptive or misleading" by the state's crazy definition. Specifically, here, this relates to the number of attorneys in the practice. For example I couldn't say "John Doe & Associates" because there is no one else but me as a sole practitioner. The question then is does the use of the world "firm" imply more than one attorney.... Thankfully the state has said that it can but doesn't necessarily and it certainly doesn't anymore than does "office." The term "office" is allowed specifically and the state has apparently said the word "firm" is also allowed for sole practitioners. Thus number of attorneys rather than physical presence was the issue.
There are numerous insane rules like this. Though I am far cheaper than most other attorneys, oftentimes literally charging half their fees or less (and I can confirm this because I know nearly all of them), I cannot tell the client that specifically. Moreover, there are a number of taboo words I can't use (some of which I don't want to use) related to this. Simply there's a whole crapload of paperwork involved in setting up a law firm and most of it seems redundant. [shrugs].

In other news:It seems the program "Freecorder" is no longer what it once was. My laptop has the old version and it works awesome for recording any video or audio off your computer. Lots of evidence things were far easier.... Anyhow, the problem specifically is that they have now in their new version teamed up with malware and browser hijackers that have infected my desktop. I did a factory condition restore after backing up my files on two 3 TB external hard drives (no loss of data). The damn thing is still there in the background. Though it no longer hijacks my browser after my diligent file deletions it still has problems. For example, right now my CPU usage is going crazy: jumping between 25% and 82% usage. All I have open are one Mozilla Firefox browser with one tab open and task manager.
I suspect this means I have a master boot disk writing virus. So I'm going to give in and take the tower over to a computer repair place. Before I do, I have to sanitize my computer of all client files etc. (backed up on external hard drives, etc). I also plan to delete anything that outs me as transgender, such as e-mails, correspondence, etc.
I really dislike it when my livelihood is screwed with. Plus it's Memorial Day Weekend so that'll take longer....
The primary thing I'm worried about is the CPU usage often going to 100%....
