Dr Who, of all places, answers the "we're just a spec" problem nicely, I think (writing from memory):

Companion lady who's name I forgot is looking at the stars
[Companion]: The universe is so big and beautiful... kinda makes you feel insignificant.
[Doctor]: Ah, but what would beauty be if no one was there to see it?

You see that big vast universe? You don't gain meaning from it. You give meaning to it, because if life didn't exist to experience it, that would be pointless. If you think the universe has meaning because it's vast and timeless, understand you're part of the reason it has any meaning at all, because "vast" and "timeless" wouldn't be concepts that existed otherwise.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Whoo fucking hoo.

EDIT: I think I'm going to start calling it my period :P

Yeah, it's because of eczema in the back of my head that I scratch far too often and that I often scratch when I get excited. I have T-gel for it, but that's been running out.

My mom's threatening a doctor, actually, but that's because I had about a week and a half of fighting this off and now I've been actually sick for a week or so.  It seems sort of a shame to call in medical professionals over a cough, sore throat, joint aches, and mild fever, though...

Not that soreness and a chest cold are cause for great concern, but proactivity is a good thing, where your health is concerned. Lingering respiratory illnesses, even minor ones, can develop into serious conditions if left unchecked. A visit to the doctor is a small price to pay to avoid something like pneumonia, bronchitis, or long-term shortness of breath due to lung damage.

(Also, it's good to see you back!)

Yeah, I know... I had bronchitis/borderline pneumonia last year, and since I pretty much never catch the flu but often get chest colds (like at least once every year, as opposed to getting the flu noticeably every 3-6 years), I'm starting to suspect that I'm going to die drowning in my own lung mucus =(

I'll probably go now that I have the lymph node issue, but hell if I don't feel "non-manly."

(Good to see you too)

It's okay. You can always flex your muscles and benchpress things once you're healthy again.

Good point.  Actually, one of the main things that's annoying me right now is that I want to do kendo, but I cannot do kendo--and I want to clean my room, but surprisingly enough, I can't quite manage the energy.  Slept 12 hours last night, and I'm visibly losing a little weight =(

I think that's mostly the fever, though.  I am feeling a lot better today.

I think that was actually directed at Putnam...

Anyway, sounds like it's probably mono or possibly the flu. There's a chance it could be something more serious, but it's highly unlikely, especially if you haven't been somewhere exotic recently.

I was personally raised in a family where my mother would rarely take me to a doctor for anything short of a broken leg, but if you want to be safe, I say go for it.

Apart from that the standard advice goes, drink plenty of fluids, juice can be good, try to eat even if you don't feel all that hungry.

I know it was directed at Putnam, but I felt like responding anyway because egotism :3

Hope it's not mono, because that'd make my summer interesting.  The sore throat isn't THAT bad.  I'm about to go eat some more, because all I've had today thus far was dinner and a slice of bread.  That is Unfortunate.  Whee~

... BRB, ascertaining severity of fever.

That's cool, I didn't think it really mattered all that much, but I felt like pointing it out because of inanity. ;]

Well look on the bright side, at least it hits now and not a few weeks earlier, right? Anyway, yes, eat, drink, be merry, and remember that though the world may seem harsh and uncaring it is full of people who love you, or would love you if they were given the chance.

That goes for the rest of you scum too.

Arglefargle as of now I will have been up 32 hours.

(Not counting ten minutes of sleep before my alarm went off, and a half hour of broken sleep on the train.)

Sleep is overrated. An occasional 15 minute nap is enough to preserve memory and focus. Your sanity, on the other hand... But who needs that, right?
