Does anyone else get the feeling that they don't belong in society, that they're just impersonating a normal person?

Replace normal with common or ordinary.

Yep. But the big secret is that everyone does that. Pretty much everyone wears a mask to hide their less socially acceptable traits.

Happy people tend not to bother with that too much, from what I've seen.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I do this at work, yes. Tends to keep things running more smoothly than trying to hook everyone on Homestuck or D&D or something. Otherwise, eh. Fuck it. Be who I wanna be.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

What I'm trying to say is something different though, not that I'm hiding unacceptable traits, but more like I don't belong completely. Like I'm a disgusting unwashed animal in human clothes, not belonging in society at all.

To believe that is to give up on yourself. You are probably no worse than you peers, and if you seek acceptance you shall find it.

Well, unless you were found in an alien capsule on a farm in Kansas and wear red and blue tights, I assure you you're quite human.

And I'd still advocate you doing whatever you want rather than whatever you feel like acting, provided you don't do anything that would get you arrested.

The closer the school year gets to ending, the more difficult it is to actually do the shrinking list of things I have left to do. It just seems less and less important.

The only qualification for belonging in society is the ability to pretend you belong in society. That is literally it. I'm not even kidding; you're not a disgusting unwashed animal in human clothes any more than the rest of us. I'm not saying anything about hiding unacceptable traits, I'm just saying that everybody has a facade they put on because nobody really fits the abstract concept of what a person is supposed to be. At least, that's been my impression.

Why do you feel like that? Or what triggers those thoughts?

You could say that these feelings are remnants of a lifetime of social exclusion.

That's an awfully nice thing to say. I think I mentioned a month or so ago that I do always feel like an old man, despite only being in my early twenties.

In other sadness, my career developer called and said that some guys maybe looking to hire have been calling me and I haven't been calling them back, my call records show nothing of this. Dammit, if it's not one thing, it's always another. All I want is a phone with good reception, good speakers so I can hear what they're saying, and won't drop me in the middle of a call for no reason. Every phone in my house only has one of those qualities, and it's maddening that my effort can be blunted by faulty technology so easily.
