I became as confident as I am now by a) Not giving shits about people who I don't care about and/or will not see more than once think, and b) figuring out what I want to do with my life, and c) figuring out who I am~.

My problem is I get bursts of motivation, make something creative, and then get massive bouts of anxiety when I share it. So I'm doing the shucking, getting scared, and dropping it. Sigh.

I link this guy a lot, but that's because I love some of the things he has to say.

Haha yeah, I've seen some of those. Second one stuck out at me when I first heard it.

Knowledge won't help me overcome those stupid cognitive barriers known as inhibitions, though. Gotta figure out a way to break those down.

It's more like you have to shuck Life like an oyster and devour the delicious self-confidence inside.

Why does that make me think of devouring someone's heart to gain their bravery?

Works out for me to just get paid to do what you should have confidence in.   I fix computers,  I used to have nearly 0 confidence in my abilities.  Then I got an internship with an actual computer repair shop.  The internship turned into a fully paid job in a week as my boss was apperantly very impressed with my abilities.

Now after more experience in the job I see that the majority of the time, yes I do know more about computers than the folks I'm helping.  Significantly more.  I still feel bad when I make mistakes, and I do still make them.  But when the people see everything else you do as some kind of miracle, a minor mistake here or there is quickly forgiven.  Doing the thing professionally shows the difference between you and others at your talent, which helps with confidence immensely.  Especially when you get to compare yourself with competing folks in your line of work who DON'T have the passion for the job you do.

In sad news, I'm hyped up to pre-order a game that hasn't even come out yet and is likely to be a good half a year before it does.  Guild Wars 2 has me hyped, and I'm not particularly sure why.  Maybe I've been playing too much WoW, and their advertising seems to be directly aimed at WoW players.  Donno, but I'm about to shell out 60-150 bucks for hope for something better.   Don't know what that says about me.

I keep reloading the pre purchase website (which is supposed to allow purchases April 10th. It isn't yet and it is currently 30 minutes into April 10th) with this strange feeling that I have turned into Philip J. Fry yelling "Shut up and take my money!"

Drugs. Drugs are the easy route to confidence. Mix cocaine and booze, and you'll have confidence come out the ass, as well as your eyeballs. Also that's toxic, makes the body create cocaethylene. Which is ALSO a drug that makes you feel confident as hell, in addition to causing liver failure and heart attacks.

WELCOME TO THE EASY ROUTE

Warning: Confidence effects may be temporary. Do not take if you are pregnant or value your life. Do not operate heavy machinery. May cause liver failure and heart failure. May result in lethal amounts of 100% GRADE A CONFIDENCE. Use with caution.

I think this is probably the problem right here. He obviously was extremely high and hallucinating walking bacon strips arresting him.

Today is the last day of my childhood.  Tomorrow I will be a man.  (It remains to be seen whether I'll gain perspective, maturity, wisdom, or something like that that adults are supposed to have.  Most likely not.)

I feel like I'm losing something.  I miss those half-remembered days before I started to go to school, when all I did was play with my cousins, and I was too young to understand how screwed up my family is.  Sometimes I kind of wish I was four again.

I also feel like I'm gaining something.  Experience?  The ability to say I've been around for eighteen years, and an active participant in about fifteen of them?  The right to vote and look at porn?  It's difficult to say.  I can't drink yet, though.

Or maybe I'm not gaining or losing anything.  Maybe I'll just be a day older then I was today, and the only thing that'll change is that the government will consider me to be a person.  *shrug* I'm getting a free cake out of the thing, though, so there's that.

Oh hell no. I'm doing it again.

During the worst parts of my life, I'd often try to justify myself by saying "my life sucks and won't amount to much, but maybe I can make someone else's better." And not in the "wind beneath your wings" sense, but a "don't follow my bad example" sense.

Caught myself doing it again. Shit. Urgent need for some irrational optimism.
