I'm in the mood of reading something manly, entertaining, yet sad. Any suggestions?

Undergrounders. short read, and a kids book (12-15) but it will make you sad.

I'm trying to think of things that are "manly" yet sad.

Hokuto no Ken? Lots of manly tears.
My Little Dashie? Same.

You know, I probably fit the old Philosopher noble position. Only my fellow dwarves are going to abandon me outside to goblins rather than pour magma on me.

I really wish Toady would bring him back. Chillest noble by a long shot. I don't usually kill nobles, but I would never have dreamed of touching the philosopher. Just give him a room somewhere strange and 'thought-provoking', provide him with some basics, and let him be.

It's not that I don't have friends, I do. What I don't have is romance, and I'm feeling the lack especially strongly recently.

If romance isn't cutting it, you could try out bromance.

It makes me EXTREMELY sad that Terry Pratchett has Alzheimer's. Hopefully he manages to write another book.

He's had it for a while, in fact he lost his ability to read or write about 2 books ago, didn't stop him dictating those books though.

I do worry about the quality of the books he's producing though, they contain a noticeably smaller amount of his trademark humour, and have a darker tone.

I do find myself wondering how much longer he'll keep going before he can no longer write them, and/or he decides to kill himself as he's said he intends to.

*sigh* if the prospect of Terry Pratchett killing himself isn't enough to depress you, I don't know what is.

I'm sorry, but "faggot" is something I've heard shouted at me while being beaten into a hospital bed with several broken ribs as a child.... The fact that it's so commonly said on the internet and in real life, doesn't change that based on actually or presumably intended context. Let's even assume you didn't mean it, "That way." Funny how... there's no way to tell people who mean it "that way" from those who don't.... See the situation?
Wow. Now I'm sad. Sorry to bring this back up, but that's really terrible.
