I'm not sure how it's grounds for an invasion and you're the only one discussing them anyway.

Hey man, I'm always pushing for acceptance that words can change, including malicious terms becoming benign.

I'll accept the various -fags to be less than insulting, depending on context. It's the same as the term "fanboy"; originally a derisive term for someone who takes things "too seriously," some weirdos like me wear it as a badge of pride.

However.

These are loaded terms. They mean different things depending on context. On the internet, tone/etc aren't available to give away what you "really" mean, either. Also, given the origin of these terms, I don't think a "bad" interpretation is at all unreasonable. Just what do you think people meant when they first came up with "newfag"? Certainly not a cutesy endearing euphemism.

You wanna say you don't mean terms like that in a negative way? Sure, I'll accept that. I'm just not so certain about that anon with a superiority complex who finds condescension to be the spice of life. And the funny thing is, you both use it in a sentence the exact same way. What am I to do but shrug?

I'm sorry, but "faggot" is something I've heard shouted at me while being beaten into a hospital bed with several broken ribs as a child.... The fact that it's so commonly said on the internet and in real life, doesn't change that based on actually or presumably intended context. Let's even assume you didn't mean it, "That way." Funny how... there's no way to tell people who mean it "that way" from those who don't.... See the situation?

All this revision is melting my brain, ruining my social life and leaving me behind on my fitness routine and guitar playing! The joys of university, eh?  :o  :-\

Discussing this seems a bit odd now. He got muted over it already.

Thing that made me sad: I had a spider in my spare change cup. I wanted to extract her without dropping about $15 in assorted coins on her head, and without getting her on myself cuz I'm really paranoid about Brown Recluses (Thanks, Discovery!).

I failed. Now I'm sad.

So does that mean that you now have a toxin eating your hand away or that you have the top part of ~$15 in change covered in Brown Recluse?

Only if it's radioactive. Regular brown recluses will simply melt your flesh.

I'm sure you could find multiple, conflicting sources. I'm not even sure if the fluff can agree it was a radioactive spider, or an alien, or genetically altered, or what.

Comic books tend to be filled with more retcons and timey wimey balls than Dr Who. So yeah, there's like 8 different "canon" origin stories for Spiderman.

A quick bit of Google-fu later, it seems that the original Spider-Man was, in fact, bitten by a radioactive spider. No mention is made of the species however; in fact, the comic referred to it as an "insect" :P
