Just don't have a family until you're where you want to be and you should be fine.

I could handle full-time work together with caring for a family OR school/working towards my desired career, but not both at the same time.  I've been stuck in a full-time job I hate for the last 5 years, while most of my time outside of work goes to my family.  Not enough left in the end to put towards changing my situation.  It's a hard trap to get out of.  A person can only handle so much responsibility.

But if you're just caring for yourself right now, I don't see why you couldn't manage... unless the work is somehow really demanding.  This sort of opportunity is kind of a big deal these days.

This is a Career sort of job, and one that would involve long-distance travel 75% of the time. I wouldn't be rooted in one place for long enough to attend any classes, unless through some kind of scheduling miracle. Also note that I've been doing jobs I hate and trying to go to school for 7 years now... I'm at a point in my coursework where I need more than a few hours a day for study, lab hours, and homework, or I'm going to be stuck retaking the classes I already need to retake because of past jobs.

I'm too poor to qualify for under-employment or unemployment (go figure there), I can't do student loans because of a botched withdrawal for work last semester, and I can't find part-time work with reasonable pay. Yeah, I could alternate working and going to school for a semester once again, but that's never worked out well for me in the past, and this isn't the type of employer that would let me come back after a semester's hiatus.

What is a bright, reasonably talented, and exceedingly poor Solifuge to do?

Yeah, I can see how it's a tough decision, then.  Sounds like one that plenty of people would be envious of, though.

I know it's a good opportunity... that's precisely why it sucks to have to make this choice. It's one of those "starving children in Ethiopia" situations, where I'd feel guilty and foolish for turning the offer down, but I'd feel like I was caching in and selling out on my life goals for accepting it.

If anyone wants this job, I'd be happy to vouch for you. Just... bleh on this whole situation.

If you can possibly do without the money, don't doit. Nothing is more important than learning, you would only live to regret later it if it compromised your studies... and i'm talking from a purely personal enlightenment and enrichment perspective here, not even considering the long term financial benefits of education.

Eh.. The physical copy of Civ5 doesn't even work for me, as in the code on the manual has already been used, even though it was un-opened.
Probably stolen with a pirate keygen, or maybe your copy is a pirate? If yours is legit you should be able to contact the publisher and they'll send you a new key since key theft is actually fairly common.

Tonight is the last time I'll be sleeping in my house.
I was curious so I checked.  I moved out of my house over a year ago.  :[

One would think you'd have noticed this by now.

Oh.  Right.  And yeah, I know that feeling.  Archive binges are depressing.

I'm dealing with an arrogant, pompous prick from a worthless, wealthy family as opposing counsel and it shows. The magistrate has told him to settle. He said basically that if we paid him everything then that'd be fine. The magistrate was furious, because that is not what settling means and now the court knows why no settlement has happened: him.... The first rule of law is to never, ever piss off the judge. He did.... He's lost his motion for summary judgment and if he's not careful, the trial. I've really tried to be nice, finally I just pulled him aside:

"Look, [new kid's name] You're right, this case isn't so big. Your firm is giving you this to see how you handle yourself before they let you bite off some larger ones and really get into it. That means if you screw this up... well. I'll let you imagine what that means. Now, I've already pointed out SOME... some... of the holes in your case. I've been trying to be nice this entire time. I've been trying to give you an easy way out so you don't lose the entire thing at trial, which you will, just like you lost the MSJ. Take the easy way out of this, settle while you can still get it.... Or I'll take everything from you at trial."

Apparently I'm, "an unprofessional asshole" for doing him this favor. Partially, I'm going for the cheaper settlement, but he really will lose this and won't know it until it smacks him in the head. His firm will not be pleased about this, because he should know better. It is more expensive for everyone involved to bring this case to trial, than to settle and the magistrate has told him to settle/trial doesn't look good for him, but he won't settle.... So he'll rack up billable hours the client isn't going to want to pay/sour relations with them, because of his ego/overdone sense of his own worth/rightness.

Yet another problem with "law as a business." It used to be a profession, and it still is, but it's just infested with people who think it is a business. Wasteful, annoying crap like this is the end result. He's going to run up more time with this case than it would be worth (charging by the hour) for him to win it, if he even could win it. He can't. Quit wasting everyone's time dude, those dirty looks the magistrate is giving you in chambers.... Yeah....

Whenever i went to court i tried to remember this
---------------------------------------------------------
Look like a idiot to a judge: not a smart move
Telling the judge to piss off: not a smart move
Taking this shit all the way through when you know you are guilty: not a smart move
Not talking to the DA to see if you can compromise: not a smart move (yes i realize this is hopeless sometimes but if they recognize you are guilty they can sometimes lower the punishment)

and finally
-----------
Your counsel pisses off a judge: fire his ass on the spot and hope to god the judge gives you some leniency

Meh, its a civil case and not really that simple, but Meh. It's primarily just me complaining about having to work against a total jerk who doesn't know what he's doing.

That's a little like a football coach complaining that the other team is letting him run the score up on them.  :P

I think that is the only time in history I have ever been compared to anything about football. :P :D

But yeah, I'm afraid his firm will fire his ass if he doesn't show some decent judgment here. I don't like him, but I don't really want him to lose his job.... Damn it new kid, get your shit together....

Yea thats understandable, that will haunt his ass for the rest of his life fucking up royally for representing a firm. Then again i heard they need public defenders too. Truean its up to you man, you aren't doing anything wrong and you are telling the guy to stop now and settle this, if he continues on with this tangent i wouldn't sweat it anymore.
