I've been arguing about Epicurus with a guy.  I've had my doubts that the other guy is grasping my arguments for a while, but now he's made it obvious.

In response to my explanation that omnibenevolence does not imply omnipotence.

What the f**k, where's the logic in that?

That guy might be that dumb, or he's trolling you with insane troll logic.

I started reading The Time-traveler's Wife.  I actually hated it within the first two pages.  Unappetizing sex scene by page 16.  I've read far better in slash fanfics.

Modern American novels make me rage so hard.  This author isn't terrible stylistically, but frankly, I am deeply unimpressed by her command of the language, and in particular to her commitment to telling stories of the beautiful, bohemian, and rich.  The woman in the couple, at 20, goes on a first date to a nearby Thai joint in a wine-colored velvet dress and gray pearls?  Really?  Rich young women don't actually dress like that.  That's especially surprising for someone who is supposed to have "red-gold" hair.  And the only humor is limited to "jokes" about an ever-increasing number of locks (always ending in 7) on one of the character's apartment doors.  The male part of this couple is 28 on the first date and doesn't really seem it.  He's supposed to be considered more on the poor side, but both of his parents are musicians, so he's oh-so-romantic too.

Bleh, bleh, fuck, damn.  I want so badly to like this book, but I don't think I can.  It gets a C.

Read some Stephen King if you want good American fiction. This sounds like something Stephanie Meyer would write if she never invented sparkly vampires.

Oh come now, I don't know about the books, but the twilight movies are pure comedy gold. I couldn't stop laughing out loud in the theater.

Actually, Meyer wrote about space slugs that took over minds for people's own goods, but later realized the error of their ways, before writing about sparkly vampires.

I actually kind of liked those books, they were better than the twilight series at least. Not good, mind you, but comparisons, you know.

Yes, I read those books you're speaking of, Glyph, and rather than causing me to profusely vomit like the Twilight series did, they merely made me queasy at their affront to novel writing.

What are you talking about?  Sounds a bit like Animorphs, but that was by KA Applegate, and I can't see anything like the story you suggest on Meyer's wiki page.

It was a bit like animorphs, but if the Yeerks really really really believed they were doing the right thing. And also I guess they are sort of more like some sort of jellyfish shrimp than a slug.

It is called "The Host"

I think I'll revise my stance. Twilight is the affront to novel writing and writing in general, whereas The Host looks like something written by a child.
