The underground labs were genius.  The very first one with the poltergeists... I've never experienced anything like it.  On my first playthrough, I never realized that the objects flying around were caused by creatures that were killable.  I raced frantically through the whole thing dodging random objects flying at me and wondering what the hell these big electrical clouds were roaming around.  It was just such a unique experience with such an immersive presentation.  It took a long time to get jaded enough to those environments that I didn't feel any real apprehension about going into them.
Those freaking labs. The floating objects were more an inconvenience, but any anomaly that I came across, I made sure to take extra caution around, just in case they could be messed around with by poltergeists, and then facing those apparitions, after killing one, a swarm of them came along, and got me into a shooting frenzy, emptying one gun, switching to another, until I was down to my sidearm to take them down, of course, until I had to reload them all after finding cover, where I'm still getting beaned by cans and bricks randomly, with the occasional heavy object that knocks me down.

It wasn't until the flying stuff stopped that I knew I got them all. What sucked about the labs and sewers worst for me had to be when there are bloodsuckers and snorks when you least expect them, and especially when you first encounter them.

My best first experience with the controller had to be when I was clearing out an area of bloodsuckers (open season) and as I was down to my last 1 or 2 bloodsuckers, my screen starts acting up and I hear a high pitched whine, and then I see this crazy-ass face pointing at me like a body snatcher. Unfortunately for it, it revealed it's position to me, and I killed it in 2 shots (at a rather significant distance, both headshots), and finished off the remaining bloodsuckers and then investigated what the hell I just experienced, and shot it a few more times to be safe. In a sense, it was one of my cooler experiences in that game as well.

Like all good games I felt it getting to the end and couldn't bear to finish it. Morrowind all over again.

Just finish it.  Stalker never ends.  It's got surprisingly good replayability, especially with mods that shake up creature and npc migration across the map.  There are lots of things you can do, even in vanilla, that subtly alter the story and environment of the game, and just the experience of being there in that environment is worth loading it up once in a while.  I used to enjoy just finding a high place and absorbing the scenery for a few minutes while listening to the muffled wind and my character's breathing inside his mask (via mods).

My best experience with Stalker was my second playthrough in the first underground section. Generally some bizarre stuff spawns down there, but it buggered for me and was much easier than it should have been. I learned to not fear creatures meant to be scary.

Second playthrough their spawns were delayed and I freaked the hell out.

Oh god oh god oh god they're going to get me.

But seriously, the first time I was in the underground lab I was carrying an RPG which I promptly fired at a rat or a barrel or something accidentally. So I dropped it. It didn't like that one bit. It was crying, screaming in an eerie high pitched whine "Deeeeee-jaaaaaaaaay... whyyyyyy didd youuu forsaaaaake meeeeee. Looooove meeeeeee" as it repeatedly attempted to stuff itself back in my inventory. Or at least that's what my mind made of it. I don't think I've ever laughed that hard and still had the composure to continually look behind myself to make sure nothing was sneaking up on me.

And I can't finish really good games. Ace Combat 5 (The unsung war, I think it was 5) really moved me and Bastion didn't really get me that badly, but had it taken longer than a few hours to beat it certainly would have. Then again, I'm the kind of guy who sits in a daze for twenty minutes after finishing a book, and after finishing some of the better anime's I'll feel off for a few days. But I'll try Stalker again after exams, but it's really hard to play with an integrated graphics card that gets a max of 25 fps and an average of 15.

I never really found stalker all that scary in game to be honest. But it's so good feeling. So immersive. Like I said before on a different board, there's nothing else like it out right now. And with the cancellation there never will be again.

It's kind of a long shot, but I wonder if GSC would be willing to release the source code as is to the community.  When there was a large interest in seeing earlier builds of SoC (with vastly different features and content), they were willing to put out a few dozen early test builds for the community to toy with, which is one of the coolest things a game company has ever done.

As for clients, yes, they are nuts. They want everything, now and to pay for none of it, ever.

All clients, everywhere, in every field ever.

Sounds to me like that's the most universal truth that there is.

My best friend's grandfather was laid to rest today. He was Buddhist, so the ceremony was very different compared to the other funerals I've attended.

This kinda depends on some things. If GSC closed it's very possible there were some clauses to prevent any individual running off with the source or assets. They might be owned by someone else by now.

Of course, if the shutdown was as shady as the rumormill suggests, legality might not be much of a barrier to one of the employees starting a company making a Stalker 2.  What's the Russian Mafia going to do, sue them?

The rumor was that it was a government organization actually. So likely it's even worse since I bet the CEO was embezzling like hell and was about to get caught or something. If that's the case odds are anything like source code or pre production materials might get torched along with anything damning.

Turns out myolastan isn't over the counter without a recpe :-(

The saddest thing of it all is that if I had bothered in filing in the papers to get collegiated, this wouldn't be a problem. But I decided to postpone that until MIR took place
