Nicolas Cage?

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

now I haz sad face :(

I was unlucky enough to catch Ghost Rider on a trans-Pacific flight. I kinda hate those international flights, because the movie selections are usually 50/50 split between the two countries. And the selection of American films usually makes me want to apologize profusely on behalf of my country.

When I flew to Prague we had a few Czech films, including Jaromil Jireš' sublime B&W adaptation of Milan Kundera's The Joke. We also had...Dr. Doolittle 2 and Osmosis Jones. >_<

Well... Since they need to diversify their shows for every type of passenger, including kids and non-sublime types :P, I think America just got unlucky with the pickings.

We're *always* unlucky with the pickings. Seriously, every American film I've ever seen on an international flight was Hollywood garbage. I'm not expecting indie flicks, but at least give us some good Hollywood stuff. My wife at least got to see The Matrix on Lufthansa.

there was one thing that made me sad today. this. or more specifically, the final chapter. I felt something that i did not feel in a long time. i cared for somebody. real or otherwise, i did not truly care for anybody in a long time. so this came as a shock. read the whole story. i dunno if you'll feel the same, but i don't care. it is a damn fine story.

(and i am aware of how corny my post sounds. it's just that i really feel like that.)

I'm saddened because I've hit rock bottom motivation again. It'll pass in a day or so, but... I've got a period of moping around until I drag myself out of apathy again. Sucks.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
