ALL THE HOPE I HAD IN MY GENERATION HAS BEEN LOST.

I lost all hope in your generation a long time ago, before everybody starting doing it.

Yea, I try to pretend I'm from gen X, because seriously Y, WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!?!
Entire generation is either dumb as dirt or will not identify themselves as gen Y.

(to anyone thinking of taking an honors linear algebra course:  that class is hard)

Been there, done that, right there with you =)

You might want to consider lightening your schedule, if you can.  It sounds like there isn't enough space to plan for contingencies, especially since you're a freshman and things are just going to get more complicated from here on out.  I had to learn this lesson the hard way... I'm a UC Berkeley math major with basically no prior technical experience with math, proof, whatever, so it seems like going to college has been a lesson in humility more than anything else.

May you be luckier than I!

Well, Gen X doesn't have all that much going for it either. Sure, we made grunge and the Internets. Then we all hit our thirties and either spent our free time wanking to porn and/or using social media and blogs to engage in mental masturbation.  :-\

Plus, irony and black humor have crippled Gen X. We got so used to treating everything as one big joke for the last 15 years or so that I feel like we're incapable of taking anything seriously.

Also, there is a gigantic billboard on the highway reading: "Homosexuality is a sin, but Christ can save you."

:( Why don't these people do that whole "feed the hungry," thing with their money instead of the whole "harass the gays," thing....

If there was a sign like that put up around here, It'd last about 5 minutes before someone tore it down or graffiti'd over it.

I feel like shit.

I just had to sit around while my mother verbally abused my little sister over her grades, and is threatening to keep an eye on her until she breaks off connections with her friend since my sister didn't get good grades, hasn't been doing her homework, and was forging my mother's signature. Then she threatened to beat her if she doesn't shape up.

I feel like shit, because, as her big brother, I feel as if I ought to do something, to protect her from this bullshit, she's only ten years old, for christ sake, but my mother scares me, and my dad scares me if he ever gets on my case about disagreeing with my mother. And that's a shitty reason as any not to help anyone.

Thanks for the response!

I decided to start out with a difficult course load so that I would be prepared for later.  Usually it isn't that bad, but my poor time management skills occasionally come back to haunt me.  This past week was just a particularly egregarious example of it.  So I took the lesson here to be "don't procrastinate" more than "I need to take a lighter course load."

In the end, it wasn't even the amount of homework that really got me -- it was the lack of sleep, plus the things that made me not able to sleep.  I can handle the homework in terms of getting good quality work turned in on time.  It's just a matter of how much stress I experience in the meantime.  I know I'll probably get my homework done.  I'll probably get as good of a grade on it as I would otherwise (which, in linear algebra, isn't saying too much).  I even feel much better now that I've had an hour's sleep.

I can't drop any of my classes now, but there's only about a month left.  Next semester I'm taking 15 credit hours, as opposed to 18 right now.  That includes honors chem and physics courses, but no labs!  I was originally going to double major in physics and mathematics, but I may just go for a minor in math.  We'll see.  Actually...I'm supposed to go to an advising session on that today.  I was thinking about skipping it due to the lab report, but maybe I should go...

Heh, I did something like that with linear algebra as well. It worked pretty well actually. Ever since I've gotten it done math hasn't phazed me the slightest. Now we're running into all sorts of quantum mechanical systems (physical chemistry) with eigenfunctions and lots of derivatives. While derivatives are more calculus, the fact that I spent so much time delving in math means that it simply isn't as hard as it could be.

That said, I had to study my ass off for Linear Algebra. It payed off, but so far it's the course I've studied the hardest for.

Heh, I remember as a fresher taking "Basic Algebra"... and crapping myself with the lack of "Basic" ("Matricies with imaginary surds? WTF?" was an early fave). But yea, we all go through the "OMG its hard" bit, before our brains warm up and are ready to deal with Maxwells equations or suchlike dependant on field of study. For me, it was Schrodingers time independant wave equation that actually made me realise I could deal with some pretty hardcore Physics.
