While we're at it, let's give him a couple of extra arms, for increased muscularity and object-manipulation powers.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Really tempted to buy a PS2 and Disgaea 1/2, but I've already spent probably too much money but it's really tempting aaaaaaaaaa.

EDIT: Could also get that Demon's Souls game and aaaaaaaaaa stop it.

you could try and see if our computer can run them. I've found that they are less demanding than many PS2 games.

Looks like I'll be coming out when I'm dead and they find my notebooks.  Durned parents and their gender policing.

Yes indeedy.  At this rate, I'm never even going to be able to date, haha, because the probability of my finding someone acceptably masculine (apparently my mom wants me to date a muscular guy) who can accept all this weirdness while coming off totally normal himself is... low.

I don't even like muscular men.

I'd like to go cry somewhere, but maybe I'll just study... probably more effective.

See, if I come out, they'll start asking where I got this stupid idea, why I "suspect" and "am afraid" that I'm queer.  What media I was involved with, and with which people.  The problem is that I have too many gay friends, not that I made these friends because somehow we resonated with each other.  Because they didn't notice the signs, it must not be true.

My cross country team ranked second in the state of Washington. Only second, when first was within our grasp.

Vector, what is this, you're in college, your parents can't tell you who to date.

They're still my parents.  It isn't about power differentials.  It's that we're close, and I don't want to disappoint them, and I know they wouldn't understand.

If they wouldn't understand what you do what, then they're not going to be happy with whatever you do, because you're not going to do what they want even if you're trying to.

In other words, you might as well not worry about it.

I can relate to Vector's situation and it's really not that simple as ignoring it or not worrying about it. I've never understood why the trend towards dealing with family today is to break family up over disagreements, rather than anything else. Even assuming a younger person isn't currently relying upon family for financial and emotional support, they are still family. Without them, where do you spend the holidays? What if you need family history information? Plus, at some point, we're supposed to be there for each other, no? I've seen way too many people get disowned, and even if being disowned isn't on the table, being a "disappointment," is. It sucks. Honestly, I don't really know how to deal with it myself, prejudice against GLBT sucks.

This is oversimplified thinking. For every action, there is a reaction. "I'll just not care about what my family thinks," opens a million questions that do not give easy answers....

Every person is free to make their own choices, and is not obligated to submit to the preconceptions or desires of others, no matter how closely related. Obviously, this means there's nothing wrong with choosing to value these things and to try and make one's family happy, and the emotional bonds that often exist within families can be compelling reasons to make that choice.

Honestly, some of us come from families that are that huge that we'd be able to seek refuge.
For example, if I were kicked out, I have (at the very least) three households that would offer me asylum. :P

If your parents are going to interfere with your love life, regardless of whether they think it's "wrong" or some bollocks like that... then force them to accept it. Some people are gay, some people are lesbian, most are heterosexual and some are asexual. It happens.
I know that's easier said than done, but well... It will come to a head eventually, better to simply confront them and deal with it now than let it fester for years.

@Truean: It's not about breaking up family because you disagree with something, it's about realising that the concept of "family" is people who accept and love you for who you are rather than the circumstance that you happen to be blood related. Then being true to yourself, because if you can't be true to yourself, you're never going to truly be able to be truly there for anybody else.

BONUS: Don't Panic. "If it's out of your control, or already happened, it's not as big a deal as you think it is. No exceptions. Worry never improved a situation, ever." If you can do something to improve the situation, then try doing it. If it works, great. If it didn't work, you tried to make it work.

Truean has a point.  a breakup is hard, no matter how annoying the situation, when you're dependent upon your parents. And there's the fact that they're still your parents. You likely don't want to break up with them either

Yeah, I probably could, but the uni's blocked like every site that might "sell" the game, as well as the "totally legitimate consoles".
