No, actually, I don't really feel like helping out with your attempt to kill/maim yourself "for science."  Sorry.

The permanent damage is that I have to have a lot of food in my pantry or I have panic attacks/anxiety problems, and I no longer have any tolerance whatsoever for being hungry.  I always have to have a plan: "Eat x at y time.  It's okay, I'm going to eat x at y time and I'm not going to have to be hungry."

I mean for fuck's sake.  Ugh, I think I'm going to go be triggered elsewhere.  Fuck.

Frankly, I just have a really hard time understanding why you're couching this in scientific inquiry.

They've studied starvation extensively.  It's not like there's been any lack of starving people, or that there are not in fact starving people in the world right now.  They don't need you.

At any rate, 31 days is gonna be ridiculous unless you're seriously obese, in which case it'd merely be an extraordinarily bad idea, as opposed to one that will probably kill you if you actually manage to follow through on it. But then, I don't actually know for sure. Maybe it would kill you anyway.

If you want to be smart about this, I'd recommend cutting off 500 calories every 3 or 4 days until you're at, maybe, half your current intake, and call it quits if it starts fucking with your ability to function. Even this is probably going to be really unhealthy if you're not overeating, but it'll reduce the whiplash your body goes through and let you retain enough intake to keep certain vital processes going, like nerve impulses and body heat.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

If you want to lose weight, eat healthily and exercise.
At the age of twelve, i was 139cm and 58kg. (4'7"? and just over 120 pounds, for you yanks). I started eating vegetarian food and riding my bike more.
By the time I was fifteen, i was 164cm and 55kg. (Very little weight loss, but much of it was converted to muscle and I was growing at the same time.)

^Historically speaking, Vector really hates being analyzed like a lab's test-subject.

Is that really how it came across? I guess I need to work on my people skills still.

At any rate, 31 days is gonna be ridiculous unless you're seriously obese, in which case it'd merely be an extraordinarily bad idea, as opposed to one that will probably kill you if you actually manage to follow through on it.  I only consume roughly 500-750 calories per day by my estimation. I eat mainly fresh fruit (Bananas usually) for everything except dinner, which is usually a chunk of lean meat and some vegetables.

Gandhi lasted for 21 days on a hunger strike in his 70s if I remember right. I also remember that several political prisoners managed to last 40-60 days before dying from lack of food. So I figured 31 would be as far as I could possibly go without risking serious damage. I suppose since its now been put on my pile of things to do I'll have plenty of time to look into it more. Not that I didn't look into it, but I may have been a little too hasty.

Ouch. My head is really hurting, I better get some sleep. Also, if your reading this Vector I just want to say sorry again. Just ignore me and my weirdness.

Gandhi looked emaciated his whole life almost as a result.

Honestly, if you're going to protest about starvation, starving yourself while you have the ABILITY to feed yourself is almost an insult to those starving because of their country.
You'd be better off subsistence farming. If you're on a large enough plot you can feed yourself quite easily. Depending on where you are, organic farms aren't too hard to find.

And what made me sad today was thinking that someone would be silly enough to think that starving oneself is a viable protest supporting the starving East Africans. You're one person. You will only harm yourself. You'd do better to donate to UNICEF or similar.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
(pardon my language) that makes me cranky.
