So right now he's working out by hitting the heavy bag down in the basement... Which is solid as a rock since it was designed for boxing gloves, he is using none, so he might as well be punching and kicking a wall. So it doesn't sound like a terribly healthy decision, but hey, he's getting exercise, so good for him.
Hitting something hard actually causes microfractures in the bone tissue of what you hit it with, which heal pretty fast (if you don't overdo it), and in doing so increase the density and strength of the bone there, see Wolff's Law. It's the prime way for martial art practitioners to get "harder fists".

Oof.  I've been hit by a bout of depression.  Also suffering from my annual headache for a few hours now.  Ah well.  I can get over this.

If you can get over it like that, it's not a real depression now is it?

I'm not over it.  I'm trying my best to get over it.  :\

I've had a pretty bad viewpoint for awhile now.  It's not well for me at all.

I hate looking at my grades. Makes me think about what a failure I am.

The only thing low grades make you a failure at is getting high grades. They're certainly not a universal measure.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

No, my grades are mostly high, except some from from third grade when I crashed and movie-making classes B and C from when I started losing creativity and will. Much harder to bluff your way through those classes.

But no, it's mostly other stuff they remind me off. But it's part of it, at least.

I'm supposed to draw a city and make it all geometric like. The geometric-ness is easy but my art sucks so much.

Saw Bridesmaids last night.

I just don't get mainstream comedy films.  They all follow the same formula.

1.  Spend about 90 minutes destroying someone's life.  Make sure the destruction is purely an unrealistic depiction of first-world problems (treat all characters as if they spend the majority of their lives not working and never encounter real violence or hardship as a result of the movie's events or it couldn't be funny anymore).

2.  Throw in about 5 minutes of cliche wisdom/uplifting messages.

3.  Happy ending.

I don't get it.

Huh. That's not the experience I've had. And I've seen just about every mainstream movie ever. But then I go mostly for barbaric physical comedy and immaturity and stupidity in adults as funny. Such is the reason Step Brothers is my favorite comedy movie ever.

Well the staple of comedy films is a straight guy getting shoved into crazy-ass situations. Or it's a ridiculous, probably horribly stereotyped person getting stuck in relatively normal situations.

Or they strike a balance between the two.

Its the birthday of someone important to me, and her phone does not work, and I don't know if she knows her phone doesn't work because I can't call her and tell her that her phone can't receive calls, or happy birthday for that matter. So I am imagining her sitting at home, waiting for friends and family to call and it never rings and she wonders why no one cares enough to call.

I can't think of many comedy movies that has the "staples" as you guys tell it. The hangover is a recent one that comes to mind. And the harold and kumar movies. Can you guys give me some examples? (Except Bridesmaids was horrible, I'm not disputing that, just that I don't think that most modern comedies follow the structure that you guys think is the status quo.)
