Eh, keeping yourself in psychologically good shape for dealing with work, by getting relaxation where necessary, is vital to getting the actual work done, so you're probably dismissing yourself too quickly there, but I don't know. You'd know better than I what works best for you.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”

Vector, your college horror stories make me fear for my future.
You can make it on 12 credits a semester at no real loss. Vector is beyond double that in classes that are already enough to make most peoples heads spin. Don't be unintentionally intimidated by people like her, it leads down dark roads of hidden resentment and self doubt. It takes a while to get yourself back into the game.

At 17 credits this semester I can definitely say you need to study at least somewhat if you want to actually pass your classes.  I have studied this weekend.  I just want more me time!

I dream of one day being someone like Vector.
Realistically I know it's never going to happen, but it's a nice dream.

On a side-note I think the forum fad of everyone being in the Vector fan club is awesome.

In other news the headache appears to be cold related. I flushed my nasal passages and that appears to have set the headache into remission. It's still there, just less prominent.

Drink some hot sauce, maybe? No, really. Or eat some horseradish, that would probably be superior. Also, do not worry, you can still work toward gaining the awesome things you see in Vector, and even if you never reach the level you think she's at (which may well be exaggerated), you'll still have improved yourself and retained your own awesomeness besides (even as she, or really any other role model, grows in some direction you might not feel the need to pursue yourself). That last sentence was probably overkill and wholly unnecessary, but oh well. Let Vector (or, again, any role model you might find) be your Kamina, is I guess what I'm saying, only hopefully without episode 8.

We should make hats while it's still trendy. They would have a pie with a half-arrow over it.

My young friend goes into state custody tomorrow, extended family refuses to help, and insults her for being gay.... She's not even really entitled to the things in her her parents' room. Her father accused me of ruining the country because I must've voted for Obama (I actually don't vote at all). I pled for a reasonable resolution, but naturally, he wasn't listening. He finally threatened to have me arrested merely for calmly sitting down and talking to him in a public place, which upset him. I smiled and had to laugh; he quickly realized what was so funny about him trying to have me arrested.... Against that kind of stupid intolerance, she never had a chance of going back into that house, though she wants to. Now I graphically see why PFLAG recommends you be financially independent before you come out to your parents....

Poor targeted kid better have a bulletproof soul; Kevlar does fuck all against these heartshots.

He has a right to his beliefs...? And, I have to respect those beliefs ???  ? I suppose she has no rights or valid beliefs.... His legal duty to take care of his own child, for all practical intents and purposes, doesn't apply due to her being gay.... Land of the free, home of the brave homophobic.... I went to law school to further justice. This is not it.... This is not it. The courts and much of the public seem to think it is though, which means I help uphold a system of laws and rights that doesn't help my kind or recognize our rights.... It is no exaggeration to say she'd be 15 and homeless right now if her father had his way.

Speaking of "not justice," tomorrow I present a police report mechanically timestamped exactly 2 minutes before the officer "filing" it in the station was allegedly all the way across town witnessing a crime. Practically no one can alter the mechanical timestamp. So, he either lied about being in the station filing the report, or he lied about being across town, cause he can't be in both places at once. Point being, he's lying.... It makes me sad when police lie on the stand, but at least this time I can definitively prove it. It gives a black eye to every decent officer out there and the justice system. The prosecution will call him to the stand, he'll lie. I'll then cross examine and pull out the report as impeachment. He should be charged with perjury, but he won't be.

You have no idea the legal hell I went through to get these police records, which prove the officer didn't see shit, the state can't prove shit, and my client did shit wrong. Moreover, I will not really be paid for all the hours I put in for this.

I somehow bet those aren't the testimonials universities are looking for and publishing.... Probably because they're true.... I must say the $100K-in-debt-law-student-picture seems a bit on the low side but I fully expected to see the law students posting.

Very tired and brushing up my understanding of the stupid rules of evidence again, cause I know the prosecutor will object when I spring this on him. Bed soon.... Very sad, but will not let her see.

Wow. And to think, I thought America was the bee's knees. In Australia, we're not very devout or homophobic. One of my male friends came out to both parents: "Yeah, we've suspected it for some time, it's ok."

A female friend came out and got a talking to which the gist of it was "I'm happy for you- it's your choice."

Is it wrong for me to say religion causes homophobia?

I wanna say this. He has every right to believe what he wants. But more importantly, he has a duty to his fellow human beings to accept that they are no less human for this; maybe he doesn't have to really believe in it, but it's an obligation that he not campaign to destroy the lives of people for loving other people. And even more importantly than that, by such a magnitude that every other consideration is practically meaningless, he has a duty to support his daughter and help her become a person she wants to be. What he's done is a horrible violation of these, and you (and everyone else who wants to do so) are right to call him an asshat for what he's done to a member of his family, and what he'd like to do to other people.

I, at least, do not condemn him for what he believes, but for what he has done. To bring such pain into another's life over this is just not acceptable, no matter what rights he might lay claim to.

Yep, but you're not too far off.

First off, not all religions have homophobic doctrine, so you'll need to define what religion.
Secondly, there's a difference between causing it, and furthering it. There are atheist homophobes.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Religion has to be the easiest justifications for Bigotry.

Secondly, there's a difference between causing it, and furthering it. There are atheist homophobes.

How many arguments against Homosexuality have you heard from either an Atheist or Atheistic viewpoint?

I have no doubt that they exist, but how many of them exist compared to ones coming from religious people?
