Had friends briefly, about two years back, thoroughly enjoyed having them, then drove them off because I was suicidal.
Now I bemoan their loss.

There isn't much I can do about that now though.

I suspect that given some time your friend will be back. I used to go silent and say goodbye, go off to sulk in a metaphorical corner for a week or two, and then come back. Until finally I had messed them around so much they didn't actually want me back...
But I wouldn't worry about that, I'm sure your friend isn't insane like I am.

My mind has been stuck in "depressed mode" all day, and all of my usual attempts to dislodge it have failed.
Oh waily, waily, waily.

+1 for using Daft Wullie's catchphrase.

Oh god anxiety. I hate making big decisions without knowing if I'll be able to handle the consequences, and tomorrow is looking like one of those. Ugh. Gambling with too much money, and a year of my life. Ugh ugh ugh. It's just getting an apartment but still so much anxious.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I had no true friends IRL from ages 8-15.

No true friends IRL from age 0 to present day. I win?

If I were to be entirely honest, I would mention that I do have siblings that are close, so I am not alone.

I don't think trying to win is what we should be doing here.

I failed my exam today--that is, I did wrong by it.  I guess the worst part of it is that I don't even feel that bad.  I just end up shrugging and saying "okay, I'll keep trying."  Getting all stirred up about that is pointless.

Think I need to go to bed soon, though.  Maybe I'll buy some milk tomorrow.

Really sorry to hear that :(

It's not something I care to brag about or hold as a title.  It's just necessary background to understand the context and impact of things that happened later on.

What I typed was accurate, but I was honestly trying to be lighthearted about it. I realize only too late that perhaps the SAD thread is not the place for clumsy attempts at ironic jollity, as I think what I wrote masquerades as mockery without my consent.

In brief: I offer my apologies to SalmonGod.

That's actually a very good attitude to have. While it does have to be tempered with, "If I don't try hard enough, I won't succeed." It's good to remember that we don't always succeed on the first try.

...Now if only I could convince myself to stick by some of this unwanted advice I keep coming up with.

Nah, I don't think this is one of those things where you try harder and harder and then you finally get it.  It's kind of like mathematics, that way.  You just keep trying, and you eventually understand or you don't, but going "Okay, I'm gonna FORCE it" doesn't help at all.

I... think that was what I was aiming for. But maybe not, I'm kind of tired and I don't even know what I mean half the time.
But yeah. I think what I was trying to say was that it's healthy not to beat yourself up about every failure... or something.
I'm full of crap.

In brief: I offer my apologies to SalmonGod.

No problem, really.  I got that it was an attempt at some dark humor, but I've just been in a really serious state of mind the last few days and being consoling felt like the proper response.  It sucks to feel isolated.  It's something I still struggle with... a lot... I just don't get uber depressed about it anymore or obsessively attached to anyone who validates my existence.

I never realized there was any beef that needed resolving, honestly :P

I just didn't want him to feel bad for having not offending me or something.
