Schlock Mercenary is the webcomic I have never failed to keep up with. Everything else has lapsed, and unfortunately when I go back to catch up on them, many of them seem to have disappeared over the years.

I hate talking to my mother when she's drunk.  Especially when she has me on her mind.

I hate it a lot more when she says things that make sense, and proves she knows me exactly as well as a mother should, despite my best unwitting attempts to tell her nothing about what goes on inside my head.

And I'll say this.  You can tell yourself whatever you want about what you think is important and how good a handle you think you have on stuff.  It's what you say when you're responding without time to think that's what's really going on.

I'm just glad that one is still around.  Especially since I haven't read it in years.  Keep saying I'm going to catch up one of these days, but fuck, there's probably close to a thousand pages by now since whenever I stopped.

Sinfest is one of my favourites, but probably the best consecutively good and regularly updated webcomic I read would be Girl Genius.

I got no sleep last night because I woke up in the middle of the night to hear my mom and stepdad fighting, after which my baby brother was awake screaming for hours.

Also, I learned today that my ex-stepdad is divorcing his wife, but they stayed together for the summer so my little brother wouldn't know. He wasn't going to tell him till he showed up on the week of Christmas, but is going to tell him next week because my brother is going to make a Facebook and try friending his stepmom. That bastard. (I shall refrain from saying more than that.) My brother's having a horrible time with everything, recently...and now this'll be on top of it.

My mind has been stuck in "depressed mode" all day, and all of my usual attempts to dislodge it have failed.
Oh waily, waily, waily.

...my best friend of all time has disappeared off of the face of the Internet. They have been with me through the good and the bad times for a long while now, keeping me from becoming very depressed. The only message I got was hidden via the 'Goggles' bookmarklet on my profile page, saying 'Goodbye, Quinn'.

Through my stalker powers I found their e-mail, I also sent them PMs, and wrote back on 'Goggles'. If I don't get a message back, today will be one of the worst days I have had in a long, long time. I'm really freaking out right now..

I know, it may sound silly that a person on the Internet can mean so much to me, but it's true. They stayed with me when I moved, when I switched schools, when I was getting seriously down about life, and I will never forget them for it.

I've been through that, with some slight differences.

I had no true friends IRL from ages 8-15.  At 13, my family got internet.  One of the first friends I made in a chat room turned out to be my best friend for the next 3 years.  We talked almost every day.  Then my family took a trip that went right past her house, and I convinced them to drop by on the way there and back.  On that trip, I thought about the impact she had on my life and started realizing I had "feelings".  I also had terrible real life social skills.  I slept a total of 3 hours the entire week we were gone, barely ate, and was incredibly awkward.  No, I didn't do anything creepy.  I was really just very awkward.  Two weeks afterwards, she similarly disappeared from the internet, and through her friends I learned that she refused to speak with me again.

It sucked.  I was near-suicidal for over a year.  In retrospect, I can't blame her.  It was 1999, when internet paranoia was at its highest.

That's quite similar to myself, although without the meeting in real life part.
I was quite depressed (almost suicidal, to be completely honest) before I met said person on the internet. They just...sort of cheered me up whenever I needed it, you know?

At least I interact with other people now, though, and have some people in real life who I would consider 'friends'. Nobody quite the same, though, hence why I'm freaking out a little.

I hope you get back in contact with your friend, but either way things will get better.  Life is full of events that will sweep you away.

In my case, another one of my online friends ran into a really bad situation a little over a year after the above incident.  She was about to be homeless, and I couldn't allow that to happen.  I convinced my family to take her in.  We sent her a bus ticket.  She came from a hellish background and had finally reached the end of her emotional limits.  I spent the next two years healing someone far far more damaged than I who was in the process of a massive emotional meltdown.  Stopped dozens of suicide attempts.  It was the toughest period of my life so far.  Absolute hell.

But... my own emotional issues faded right away and have never returned.
